Buying Guide

Quick-ship saves you two waits, not one

The obvious one is manufacturing. A kiln built to order takes as long as it takes, and that lead time sits between you and your first firing whatever you paid.

The one people do not see coming is the second order. A kiln on its own cannot fire anything that does not sit flat on the chamber floor, so you need shelves, posts and kiln wash sized to your particular chamber. That is a separate purchase, often a separate lead time, and getting the sizes right is genuinely fiddly.

Every kiln on this page ships with a furniture kit matched to its chamber. Four models, all Olympic, all in stock. If none of them is the right size, the full ceramic range has 65.

Why buy your kiln from us

Authorized Olympic dealer, which is what keeps your warranty valid.

In stock means in stock

These four are held rather than built to order. If something changes we will tell you before you pay, not after.

Discounted flat-rate shipping calculated at checkout before you buy, with no surprise charges afterwards. Larger units move by freight with liftgate service where the delivery requires it.

Price match guarantee

Test firing does not void returns

The manufacturer's recommended initial test firing will not automatically void a return, provided the remaining conditions are met. Read the full terms on our returns page.

120V
IS NOT
PLUG-IN

One of these says 120V and still needs an electrician

The Olympic 1214-120HE runs on 120 volts, which sounds like it belongs in a wall socket. It does not. It draws 24 amps, needs a 30 amp breaker, and ships on a NEMA L5-30 cordset, which is a twist-lock plug you will not find anywhere in a normal house. What that buys you is unusual: 0.86 cubic feet at cone 10 on a single-phase 120V supply, which is well past what a standard household circuit can deliver.

By contrast the Doll E Quick-Ship at $1,305 genuinely does plug in, on an ordinary NEMA 5-15, and wants a 20 amp breaker like every other small kiln.

Worth saying plainly: our catalog already flags this correctly, and the 1214-120HE is deliberately kept out of the 120V, no electrician needed collection for exactly this reason. But on a page about getting firing quickly, it is the one thing that could still cost you a week. Call (470) 264-3563 if you are unsure what your socket is.

Quick-ship kiln FAQs

The questions we get asked on the phone most often.

What does quick-ship actually mean?

That the kiln is held in stock rather than built to order, so it can leave without waiting on a production slot. On this page it also means a furniture kit is bundled with it.

It does not change the freight time, which depends on where you are and how the carrier routes it. Shipping is calculated at checkout before you buy.

What is in the furniture kit?

Shelves and posts sized to that specific chamber. That is the part people underestimate, because shelf sizes and post heights are particular to the kiln and ordering them separately means measuring carefully.

You will still want kiln wash for the shelves and witness cones for the firings. Ask us and we will add them to the order.

Why are there only four?

Because holding stock is expensive and only worth doing on the sizes that actually move. These four cover the most common cases: a small test kiln, a larger 120V model, and two full studio sizes.

If the size you want is not here it is not a problem, it just means it is built rather than held. Call us and we will tell you the realistic lead time before you order.

Can I really plug the 120V ones in?

One of them, yes. The Doll E Quick-Ship uses an ordinary NEMA 5-15 plug and wants a 20 amp breaker.

The 1214-120HE does not. It draws 24 amps, needs a 30 amp breaker and uses a NEMA L5-30 twist-lock cordset. It is 120 volts, but it is not a household socket, and that is worth settling before you order rather than after.

What circuit do the 240V models need?

A dedicated one. The MAS1823HE and MAS2327HE are both 240V cone 10 kilns, and the corresponding Olympic models draw 26.25 and 47 amps respectively, wanting 40 and 60 amp breakers.

Kilns are a continuous load, so the breaker is always sized above the draw. Confirm your panel has the capacity before you order. See the 240V range sorted by breaker.

Are these the same kilns as the standard models?

They are the same Olympic models, held in stock and bundled with furniture. What you are buying is availability and a matched furniture kit, not a different machine.

That also means the same warranty applies, and we are an authorized Olympic dealer, so registering it is straightforward.

What else do I need before the first firing?

Kiln wash for the shelves, witness cones, and a plan for ventilation. The furniture kit covers shelves and posts, which is the expensive and fiddly part, but not the consumables.

You will also need the circuit ready before delivery if the kiln needs one. There is no point having the kiln arrive quickly and then waiting three weeks for an electrician.

Do I need a kiln vent?

Firing clay and glazes releases fumes, so the firing area needs ventilation whatever the kiln size. A downdraft vent system also pulls fresh air through the chamber, which helps burn off organics during bisque.

What your setup needs depends on the kiln, your materials, the room and any local codes. Call (470) 264-3563 and describe the space.

How are they delivered?

The small ones often go by parcel carrier. The studio sizes move by freight, with curbside delivery, appointment scheduling, tracking and liftgate service where required.

Curbside means the curb, so plan how the kiln gets from there into position before it arrives. Shipping is calculated at checkout. See our shipping page.

Can I return one after a test firing?

Performing the manufacturer's recommended initial test firing will not by itself void a return, as long as the other conditions in our policy are met.

Read the full terms, including timeframes and condition requirements, on our returns page.
