Brand new and shipped direct from Paragon, so it carries Paragon's full factory warranty. If something goes wrong, call us and we handle the claim with the factory for you.

Returns: request within 15 days, unused
Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:
- Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
- It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
- A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
- Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.
Will it work in my space? Power check
Not included: Paragon Knifemaking Heat Treating Kit (gloves, tongs, blade holders, firebrick supports) and gas inlet/flowmeter, both optional upgrades. Requires 240V, 13 amps, with a NEMA 6-20 receptacle. Call us to confirm the plug type for your shop before ordering.
Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

The double-barrel front-loading design gives you one chamber that is wider and taller than the standard KM18, so you can heat treat larger batches of blades in a single cycle. The 18-inch chamber depth accommodates longer blade profiles including swords, machetes, and large hunting knives, while the 2350°F maximum firing temperature provides the high heat necessary for proper hardening and tempering of carbon steel and high-alloy tool steels commonly used in professional knifemaking. What’s included
The oven, assembled and wiredParagon builds and wires it at the factory. The door style you chose is already fitted: a spring-assisted drop door or a side-swing door, both standard at the same price.
Digital controller, factory-installedParagon fits and wires the controller before the kiln leaves the factory. Paragon has been renaming and replacing its controller line and dealer listings are out of date at different dates, so we do not print a model name here. We confirm the exact controller with Paragon when you order.

Paragon limited warranty — one yearOne year from purchase on this model, per Paragon's published warranty schedule. Paragon does not warrant the Type-K thermocouple, so treat that as a wear part. Keep your proof of purchase.
Not includedNo shelves, posts or kiln furniture ship with a knife oven. The Knifemaker's Heat Treating Kit — four knife holders, eight firebrick supports, a heat treating fork and hot gloves — is a separate purchase, and so are the upgraded touchscreen controller and the gas-inlet option.

Common questions
What types of steel can I heat treat in the KM18?
The 2350°F maximum temperature handles all common blade steels including 1095, 5160, 52100, O1, A2, D2, and high-alloy stainless steels like 440C and AEB-L. The temperature range covers both hardening (typically 1450-2100°F depending on alloy) and tempering cycles (300-1000°F). For high-speed steels and some exotic alloys requiring temperatures above 2200°F, verify your specific steel's austenitizing temperature falls within the oven's range. The optional gas inlet allows connection of argon or nitrogen atmosphere systems to prevent oxidation during hardening of reactive steels.
Do I need to add a gas atmosphere system, or can I heat treat in air?
Many carbon steels can be successfully heat treated in air atmosphere for forged blades that will be ground post-hardening, though some surface scaling and decarburization will occur. For stock removal blades with finished grinds, stainless steels, or when minimal scale is critical, connecting an inert gas system (argon or nitrogen) to the optional gas inlet creates a protective atmosphere that prevents oxidation and decarburization. What controller comes standard, and can I program custom heat treating cycles?

How does the double barrel design compare to single chamber knife ovens?
The Double Barrel keeps the 18-inch depth of the standard KM18 but has one wider, taller chamber, so you can heat treat more blades per cycle or fit wider pieces. It is still a single chamber with one single-zone controller, so all blades in a load run the same program. If you want to harden and temper at the same time, you would need a second oven.
Is this oven backed by a manufacturer warranty when purchased through Peach State Pottery?
Yes. The KM18 includes Paragon's one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. You must register your oven within 30 days of delivery to activate warranty coverage. Purchasing through unauthorized resellers or used markets typically voids manufacturer warranty.
