Common questions
What's the difference between the Fusion 19 and a clamshell glass kiln?
The Fusion 19 is a top-lid kiln — the lid lifts open on a hinge, with the heating elements built into the lid itself. Clamshell kilns instead open from the side like a book, with elements on both halves. Both styles fuse and slump glass equally well; the choice usually comes down to studio layout, loading habits, and personal preference for accessing the work.
Can I fuse and slump in the same kiln?
Yes. Fusing joins glass pieces together at higher temperatures (roughly 1400–1500°F), while slumping shapes glass over or into a mold at lower temperatures (roughly 1200–1300°F). The Fusion 19's 1700°F ceiling comfortably covers both processes within its 19"×19" chamber.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for this kiln?
Yes — the Fusion 19 draws 16 amps on a 240V circuit, so it needs its own dedicated line rather than sharing a household outlet. Have an electrician confirm your studio's panel can support a 240V/20A (or larger) circuit before installation if you're not already set up for 240V equipment.
What do I need to buy separately to start firing?
The Fusion 19 ships as the kiln itself with its controller, lid, and base — shelves, shelf paper or kiln wash, and molds for slumping are sold separately so you can choose exactly what your projects need. Our furniture kit bundles shelves and posts sized specifically for this chamber if you'd rather order everything at once.
Is the warranty valid if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes. Peach State Pottery is an authorized Paragon dealer, so your Fusion 19 comes with the full one-year manufacturer's warranty. Register your kiln within 30 days of delivery to activate coverage — kilns purchased from unauthorized sellers do not qualify for manufacturer warranty support.
Not sure if the Fusion 19 is right for your glass work? We'll help you compare chamber sizes, power requirements, and accessories to find the perfect fit.
