Authorized Paragon dealer · full factory warranty

Brand new and shipped direct from Paragon, so it carries Paragon's full factory warranty. If something goes wrong, call us and we handle the claim with the factory for you.

Warranty terms are in the Warranty and support section below.

Returns: request within 15 days, unused

Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:

  • Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
  • It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
  • A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
  • Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.

Not included: kiln shelf (7″ square), posts, vent, window and collars (sold separately). The 120V model plugs into a standard household outlet.

Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

Send us a photo of your breaker panel or outlet and we'll confirm before your kiln is built: 470-264-3563 (call or text).

Overview

Paragon · Jewelry, Glass & Test Kiln · Digital Kiln Paragon Caldera Digital Kiln Caldera · 120V or 240V · 8" W x 8" L x 6.75" D (firing chamber) · 0.25 cubic feet · Cone 10 / 2350°F The Paragon Caldera is a compact digital kiln that fires to Cone 10 (2350°F), which covers metal clay jewelry, glass fusing and slumping, enameling, china painting and decals, and small ceramic, porcelain and stoneware work. The firing chamber measures 8" wide x 8" long x 6.75" deep, roughly 0.25 cubic feet, so this is a bench-top kiln for jewelry, tests and small pieces rather than production ware. The two-piece body separates into top and bottom sections for transport, the 120V model plugs into a standard household outlet, and the Sentinel Touch Xpress touchscreen controller handles ramp and hold programming. Every Caldera is built to order in your choice of eight kiln colors at no extra charge.

What’s included
The kiln, assembled and wiredParagon builds, wires and tests it at the factory, so it arrives ready to connect to power.
Steel stand with rubber feetA steel stand, 2-3/4" high x 14" wide x 12-3/4" deep, with mar-proof rubber feet. It ships with the kiln.
Sentinel TouchXpress controller, factory-installedParagon's touchscreen controller, fitted and wired at the factory. We re-confirm the controller with Paragon at order time, because Paragon has been renaming this line.
Type-K thermocouple, installedFitted at the factory and wired to the controller. Type-K is standard across the current Paragon range.
Cord and plug — NEMA 5-15RParagon fits a cord with a NEMA 5-15R plug on the 120V build. The plug changes with the voltage option you order, so tell us your service and we confirm the receptacle before the order goes in.
Printed manualsA printed instruction manual for the kiln and a separate guide for the controller. Warranty registration is done online at Paragon, and we do not promise a printed warranty card in the crate because we could not confirm one is packed.
Paragon limited warrantyParagon limited warranty — we confirm the term for your model before you order. Paragon's published schedule and its dealers' listings disagree on the term for this kiln, so we will not print a number here that we cannot stand behind.
Not included — no kiln furnitureNo kiln furniture ships with a Caldera. The 7" square shelf is not included and the Caldera furniture kit — shelf, posts and glass separator — is a separate Paragon item bought on its own. If you have seen a Caldera listing elsewhere that spells out kit contents, that is the separate kit being described, not what is in the crate. The glass window top, bead collar, enameling collar and Vitrigraph bottom adapter are separate options too.

Optional accessories
Furniture Kit One 7" square shelf, four 1" square posts and a 1 lb bag of glass separator. Shelves and posts are not included with the kiln, so most first-time buyers add this kit
Lid Viewing Window Factory-fitted glass window lets you watch glass fuse or slump without opening the lid. Paragon rates a window-equipped Caldera to a lower maximum temperature than the standard lid, so it suits glass rather than high-fire ceramics
Extension Collar Adds chamber height for taller slumping and sculpture work, using the same stackable two-piece construction
Bead Collar Adapts the Caldera for bead annealing alongside its normal firing work
Vitrigraph Kit Converts the Caldera for vitrigraph work, pulling glass stringers and drops through the kiln floor
Type K Thermocouple Replacement Replacement Type K thermocouple for the Sentinel Touch Xpress controller system
Caldera or Caldera XL
This listing is the Caldera, not the Caldera XLModel check
Paragon builds two kilns under the Caldera name and they are easy to mix up. The Caldera on this page has the wider, shallower chamber. The Caldera XL is a separate model with a narrower but much taller chamber, and it carries a higher price. Both share the same maximum temperature, the same 2.5" firebrick and the same Sentinel Touch Xpress controller, so the choice comes down to the shape of the work you fire.
  • Caldera firing chamber: 8" wide x 8" long x 6.75" deep, about 0.25 cubic feet
  • Caldera XL firing chamber: 7.5" wide x 5.5" long x 8.75" high
  • Caldera: wider floor area, better for flat glass, tiles and jewelry laid out on one shelf
  • Caldera XL: extra height, better for taller pieces and stacked shelves
  • Both fire to 2350°F (1287°C) with 2.5" insulating firebrick and the Sentinel Touch Xpress controller
  • Paragon lists the Caldera at $1,800 and the Caldera XL at $2,200, so price is a quick way to tell them apart
Common questions
What can I fire in the Paragon Caldera? The Caldera fires to Cone 10 (2350°F), making it suitable for metal clay jewelry (silver, bronze, copper), small ceramic, porcelain and stoneware pieces, china painting, decals, enameling on metal, and glass fusing and slumping. The chamber is 8" wide x 8" long x 6.75" deep, roughly 0.25 cubic feet, and takes a 7" square shelf. That makes it a test and jewelry kiln: glaze and clay test tiles, jewelry, small sculpture and fused glass pieces that fit inside an 8" square footprint. Shelves and posts are not included, so add the furniture kit if you do not already have one.
Can I plug the 120V version into a standard outlet, or do I need an electrician? The 120V Caldera draws 14 amps at 1680 watts and ships with a NEMA 5-15 plug, the standard household configuration, so no new receptacle is normally required. Because a kiln pulls that current for the whole firing, put it on a circuit of its own and do not run it on an extension cord or a shared circuit with other appliances. If you are unsure what else is on the circuit, have a licensed electrician confirm your wiring meets National Electrical Code requirements. Paragon also builds the Caldera in a 240V single phase version for 220-240V service, but does not publish its amp draw or plug type, so contact us before ordering that build.
What colors is the Caldera available in? Paragon paints the Caldera in eight colors at no extra charge: berry, black, blue, hot pink, jade, navy, purple and turquoise. Pick yours from the options above before adding the kiln to your cart. Every Caldera is built to order, so the color is applied at the factory rather than added later.
How portable is the stackable design? Can one person move it? Yes. The whole kiln ships at roughly 50 lbs, and the two-piece body separates into top and bottom sections that are lighter still. With the steel stand it stands 13" wide x 19.5" deep x 13.75" high, so it fits on a bench, in a car boot or in the back seat. That makes the Caldera practical for traveling instructors, workshops and seminars, and small enough to keep in a spare room or garage studio.
