Returns: request within 15 days, unused
Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:
- Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
- It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
- A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
- Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.
Will it work in my space? Power check
Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

Olympic DD12 Downdraft Gas Kiln
The DD12 is the next size up from our DD9 downdraft gas kiln, giving production studios and larger programs a bigger reduction-firing chamber without moving to industrial-scale equipment. Its 6-burner downdraft system pulls heat evenly down through the load before venting, giving more consistent cone-to-cone results across a taller stack than a comparable updraft kiln. Available factory-configured for natural gas or propane, the DD12 is built for serious, repeated Cone 10 reduction firing.

What’s included
The kiln, shipped ready to fireOlympic's downdraft kilns arrive ready to fire, with the burner system already mounted underneath the chamber and plumbed to the manifold.
Burners with ignition systemOlympic prices this as a single line: high-efficiency venturi burners mounted underneath the chamber, orifices sized for the gas you tell us you run, the manifold with its gas valve, the pilot, a magnetic valve with a thermocouple safety shut-off, and the ignition.
No controller and no pyrometerOlympic's gas kilns ship with no digital controller and no temperature readout at all, so you fire by cones. The High Limit Controller is a $1,600 option and a pyrometer is a separate purchase, so add one at order time if you want a reading.
The welded frame and stainless bodyThe chamber is carried on a welded heavy angle iron and metal tubing frame with a stainless steel exterior, so there is no separate stand. Bolt-in pyro-block roof modules and a double insulated floor are part of the body.
The operating manual and a one-year warrantyOlympic's printed gas kiln operating manual travels with the kiln. Olympic's limited warranty runs two years, cut to one year on any kiln rated at cone 10, and every Olympic gas kiln is rated at cone 10, so one year. Register with Olympic within 30 days of delivery.
Not included: the gas hook-upThe low pressure regulator is a paid option and the 1-inch gas line back to your meter or tank is your plumber's work. Neither is supplied with the kiln.
Not included: stack, damper and vent hoodA downdraft kiln needs a stack or chimney to induce draft and Olympic does not supply one. No damper ships either, since the manual has you cover the flue with a brick or kiln shelf. The vent hood is a separate item.

Because the DD12 is gas-fired, it doesn't use the electric-element Genesis or KilnStar controllers found on Olympic's electric kilns. Instead, the standard setup relies on manual damper adjustment and pyrometric cone-watching through the viewing ports. The optional electronic controller package adds a digital pyrometer with precise temperature readout plus ramp/hold assistance, giving you far more repeatable, documented firings without having to babysit cones through the entire cycle.

Common questions
How does the DD12 compare to the DD9 we already carry?
The DD12 is the next size up from our DD9 downdraft gas kiln — 18.75 cubic feet versus the DD9's 15 cubic feet, with a larger 33″ × 32″ × 37″ chamber and six burners instead of a smaller burner count. Both share the same downdraft firing pattern, front-loading design, and Cone 10 capability. Choose the DD12 if you're outgrowing the DD9's capacity or running a higher volume of production work; choose the DD9 if floor space or gas supply is more limited.
Can I convert this kiln between natural gas and propane?
The DD12 is configured at the factory for either natural gas or propane — you must specify which fuel type you need when ordering, since orifice size and gas pressure differ between the two (9/64″ orifice at 7″ water column for NG versus #40 orifice at 11″ water column for LP). Converting between fuel types after purchase requires replacing burner orifices and adjusting gas pressure settings, and should only be performed by a qualified gas kiln technician.
What are the installation requirements for the DD12?
The DD12 requires a 1″ gas supply line sized for its 300,000 BTU/hr total burner output, correct gas pressure regulation for your chosen fuel, and a properly sized chimney/flue system that exhausts combustion gases safely to the exterior. Installation must comply with local building and gas appliance codes. We strongly recommend a licensed gas fitter and an experienced kiln installer, plus a stable, level, non-combustible floor with adequate clearance from walls and combustible materials.
Do I need to purchase kiln furniture separately?
Yes, kiln furniture is not included with the DD12 and must be purchased separately. For the 27″ × 28″ setting area, you'll typically need 6-8 or more shelves and a full assortment of posts in varying heights to build efficient stacking configurations for production loads. How is the Olympic kiln warranty activated?
Olympic Kilns provides a one-year limited warranty that must be registered within 30 days of delivery. The warranty is only valid when purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery. Register your kiln directly with Olympic Kilns after delivery using the serial number and purchase documentation. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage from improper installation, misuse, or normal wear components like burner orifices.
