Returns: request within 15 days, unused
Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:
- Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
- It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
- A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
- Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.
Will it work in my space? Power check
Not included: kiln shelves and posts, low-pressure regulator, vent hood and castors (optional, sold separately). Gas hookup by a qualified installer: propane 11″ w.c. / natural gas 7″ w.c.
Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

What’s included
The kiln, built in rings on its frameThe chamber is built in rings on its steel frame with the burner system already mounted and plumbed to it. Olympic publishes no ready-to-fire statement for the Torchbearer line, so we confirm the delivered state with the factory before your order goes in.
Burners with ignition systemOlympic prices this as a single line and it is the whole firing system: the burners, orifices sized for the gas you tell us you run, the manifold with its gas valve, the pilot bar or pilot ring, a magnetic valve with a thermocouple safety shut-off, and the ignition. It arrives mounted to the kiln, not boxed loose.
No controller and no pyrometerOlympic's gas kilns ship with no digital controller and no temperature readout at all, so you fire by cones. The High Limit Controller is a $1,600 option and a pyrometer is a separate purchase, so add one at order time if you want a reading.
The frame it stands onThe kiln body comes on its own steel frame and legs, so there is no separate stand to buy or build.
The operating manual and a one-year warrantyOlympic's printed gas kiln operating manual travels with the kiln. Olympic's limited warranty runs two years, cut to one year on any kiln rated at cone 10, and every Olympic gas kiln is rated at cone 10, so one year. Register with Olympic within 30 days of delivery.
Not included: the gas hook-upThe low pressure regulator is a paid option, $175 on the 18-inch and $275 on the 23-inch and 28-inch kilns. The 3/4-inch gas hard line, the hose and the fittings back to your meter or tank are your plumber's work and are not supplied.
Not included: damper and vent hoodNo damper ships with the kiln. Olympic's manual has you cover the flue with a brick or a kiln shelf that you supply. The vent hood is a separate item at $1,700 to $1,750 and is not included.
Not included: furniture and accessoriesNo kiln furniture. Every gas line has its own separately priced furniture kit and shelves and posts are priced one by one. Raku tongs, gloves, stilts and kiln wash are separate items too.

Common questions
Can I use both natural gas and propane with this kiln?
Yes. The 2827G includes conversion components to switch between natural gas and propane. The orifice size must be changed when converting between fuel types. Most studios choose their fuel source based on local availability and cost—natural gas where municipal service is available, propane in rural locations. Olympic provides instructions for proper conversion and burner adjustment.
What kind of installation does this gas kiln require?
The 2827G requires professional installation by a licensed plumber or gas technician familiar with gas-fired equipment. You'll need a dedicated gas line with proper pressure regulation, adequate ventilation (typically a vented kiln room or outdoor shelter), a stable non-combustible floor surface, and clearance from combustible materials per local fire codes. The kiln must be properly vented to exhaust combustion gases. Most installations also benefit from overhead ventilation or a downdraft system.
Do I need to purchase kiln furniture separately?
Yes. Kiln furniture (shelves, posts, stilts) is sold separately as an optional accessory. The 28.25-inch diameter chamber typically uses 26-inch or 27-inch round shelves. We recommend purchasing a furniture kit sized specifically for the 2827G to maximize loading efficiency. High-alumina shelves are recommended for gas firing due to their durability in reduction atmospheres.
What's the advantage of an updraft design?
Updraft kilns have the burner positioned at the bottom with heat rising naturally through the chamber and exiting at the top. This design provides even heat distribution, simpler construction with fewer components to maintain, and excellent performance for bisque and oxidation firing. The 2827G's updraft configuration also allows effective reduction firing by controlling the damper and air intake to create oxygen-depleted atmospheres.
How does the warranty work for Olympic kilns?
Olympic provides a one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. You must register your kiln within 30 days of delivery to activate warranty coverage. The warranty is valid only when purchased through authorized Olympic dealers like Peach State Pottery. Consumable components like thermocouples and normal wear items are not covered. Keep your purchase documentation and registration confirmation.
