Common questions
What steel types can I temper in the HS-360T?
The 600°F maximum temperature is ideal for most knife steels including 1095, 5160, O1, and 1084 carbon steels, as well as many stainless steels like 440C and AEB-L. Most knife steels temper between 350°F and 550°F depending on desired hardness. Higher-alloy tool steels requiring 1000°F+ tempering are not suitable for this oven.
Can I add atmosphere capability for specialized heat treating?
Yes. The HS-360T can be fitted with an optional atmosphere inlet kit that allows you to introduce nitrogen, argon, or other gases during the tempering cycle. This is useful for preventing oxidation on highly polished blades or for specialized metallurgical processes. Contact us about atmosphere kit availability and installation.
What's the difference between this tempering oven and a full heat treat kiln?
This tempering oven reaches only 600°F—it's designed exclusively for the tempering stage after you've already hardened your blades in a forge or heat treat kiln. You cannot harden steel in this oven. For full heat treat capability (hardening and tempering), you need a kiln that reaches 1800°F+ like the Hot Shot HT series heat treat ovens.
How long does a typical tempering cycle take?
Heat-up time to 400°F is approximately 20-30 minutes. Most knife makers run two 2-hour tempering cycles with a cool-down between cycles, so expect a full tempering process to take 5-6 hours including heat-up, soak time, and cool-down periods. The solid state relay maintains precise temperature throughout the soak.
Is the warranty valid if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes. Peach State Pottery is an authorized Hot Shot dealer, which means your oven is covered by the full manufacturer's one-year limited warranty. You must register the oven within 30 days of delivery. Purchases from unauthorized resellers or used equipment are not covered by manufacturer warranty.
Not sure if the HS-360T is the right tempering oven for your knife shop? Our team can help you compare chamber sizes, atmosphere options, and temperature ranges for your specific steel types.

Shipping/Returns

HotShot Oven & Kiln Shipping & Returns

At Peach State Pottery, we want your HotShot Oven & Kiln delivery experience to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. HotShot ovens and kilns are carefully packaged and shipped by common carrier to help ensure safe delivery.

Because ovens and kilns can be heavy, fragile, or freight-shipped, it is important to understand the delivery process before your order arrives.

Shipping & Delivery

Processing Time

HotShot Oven & Kiln products purchased through Peach State Pottery typically ship within 5–7 business days of order placement.

Delivery times may vary based on carrier schedules, product availability, and your location. For large or time-sensitive orders, we recommend contacting us before placing your order to confirm availability and estimated delivery timing.

Flat-Rate Shipping

Most HotShot ovens and kilns ship for a flat rate of $80. Final shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the specific product ordered.

Standard Delivery

Standard HotShot shipments are delivered curbside. The carrier will contact you to schedule delivery when an appointment is required.

Standard delivery does not include:

  • Uncrating
  • Carrying the oven or kiln inside
  • Placement in your studio, garage, home, or workspace
  • Setup or installation

Tracking Information

Once your order ships, tracking information will be sent to the email address used at checkout.

Shipping Restrictions

HotShot ovens and kilns ship to the continental United States.

For Alaska, Hawaii, international orders, or freight quotes to commercial addresses, please contact Peach State Pottery for a custom shipping quote before placing your order.

Access & Delivery Challenges

Please contact us before ordering if your delivery location has possible access issues, such as:

  • Gravel or dirt roads
  • Steep driveways
  • Narrow streets
  • Low-hanging trees or low clearances
  • Limited truck access
  • Rural or hard-to-reach delivery locations

Depending on your location and the carrier used, additional arrangements may be needed to complete delivery.

Unloading Your Order

Once your HotShot oven or kiln arrives, the customer is responsible for moving the unit from the delivery point to its final location unless a separate moving or installation service has been arranged.

Hire a Local Moving or Package-Handling Service

For heavier units or tight spaces, many customers hire a local moving or package-handling service to help receive the shipment and move the oven or kiln into place.

Unload the Order Yourself

If you plan to handle unloading yourself, make sure you have the proper equipment and enough help available. Depending on the unit size and weight, this may require a dolly, pallet jack, liftgate delivery, forklift, loading dock, or similar equipment.

Inspecting Your Shipment

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Inspection at delivery is important because shipping damage must be documented as quickly and clearly as possible.

If There Is Minor Visible Damage

  • Note the damage on the delivery paperwork before signing.
  • Take clear photos of the packaging and any visible damage.
  • Accept the shipment if the damage appears minor.
  • Inspect the product immediately after unpacking.
  • Contact Peach State Pottery as soon as possible.

If There Is Severe Visible Damage

  • Refuse the shipment if the damage appears severe.
  • Take detailed photos before refusal.
  • Contact Peach State Pottery right away.

If You Discover Concealed Damage

Concealed damage is damage discovered after the product has been unpacked.

  • Notify Peach State Pottery as soon as possible.
  • Keep all packaging materials.
  • Take detailed photos and/or video.
  • Report the issue promptly so the shipping damage claim process can be reviewed.

Photo & Video Documentation

Before opening the box or crate, we strongly recommend taking clear photos or video of the packaging from all sides.

Continue documenting as you unpack, especially if you notice crushed packaging, torn cartons, holes in the box, visible impact marks, or damage to the oven, kiln, or accessories.

This documentation may be required to support a freight or shipping claim.

This return policy applies to HotShot Oven & Kiln products purchased through Peach State Pottery. Returns must receive prior approval and meet all conditions outlined below. Warranty returns are covered under a separate warranty policy.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
