Common questions
What steel types can I heat treat in the HS-24K?
The HS-24K reaches 2200°F, which covers all common knife steels including 1095, 5160, O1, W2, 52100, and most stainless steels like 440C and AEB-L. For higher-temp stainless steels like S30V or S35VN (requiring 1900-2100°F), this kiln provides adequate headroom. High-speed steels requiring temperatures above 2200°F are outside this oven's range. The optional atmosphere gas inlet allows you to introduce protective gases during austenitizing to prevent surface decarburization on high-carbon steels.
Can I add a controlled atmosphere to this oven?
Yes. The HS-24K is designed to accept the optional atmosphere gas inlet kit, which allows you to introduce nitrogen, argon, or other gases during heat treating. This prevents scaling and decarburization on blade surfaces, reducing post-heat-treat grinding and preserving edge geometry. The clamshell door design maintains adequate sealing for atmosphere retention during the austenitizing soak, though this is not a vacuum-tight sealed retort system.
What are the advantages of the solid state relay over a standard contactor?
The built-in solid state relay (SSR) switches power silently without mechanical wear, providing tighter temperature control within ±5°F compared to ±15-20°F with mechanical contactors. SSRs eliminate the clicking sound and electrical arcing of contactors, extending element life by reducing thermal shock from rapid on-off cycling. For precision heat treating where austenitizing temperature accuracy affects final hardness, the SSR provides meaningfully better results, which is why Hot Shot includes it as standard equipment.
Do I need a licensed electrician to install the HS-24K?
Yes, professional installation is required. This oven draws 32 amps at 240V and requires a dedicated 40-amp circuit with appropriately sized wire (typically 8 AWG copper). Most jurisdictions require permit and inspection for this electrical work. Your electrician will need to install a NEMA 6-50 or hardwired connection per local code. Improper installation voids your warranty and creates serious fire and shock hazards. Budget $300-800 for professional installation depending on distance from your electrical panel.
Why should I purchase from an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery?
Hot Shot's one-year warranty is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers and registered within 30 days of delivery. Unauthorized sellers cannot provide valid warranty coverage, leaving you responsible for all repair costs. As an authorized dealer, Peach State Pottery provides proper documentation for warranty registration, technical support for installation questions, and access to genuine Hot Shot replacement parts. We also understand kiln electrical requirements and can guide you through the electrician briefing process.
Not sure if the HS-24K is the right heat treating oven for your shop? Our team can help you evaluate chamber size, atmosphere requirements, and electrical compatibility for your blade production needs.

Photo & Video Documentation

Before opening the box or crate, we strongly recommend taking clear photos or video of the packaging from all sides.

Continue documenting as you unpack, especially if you notice crushed packaging, torn cartons, holes in the box, visible impact marks, or damage to the oven, kiln, or accessories.

This documentation may be required to support a freight or shipping claim.

Returns & Exchanges

This return policy applies to HotShot Oven & Kiln products purchased through Peach State Pottery. Returns must receive prior approval and meet all conditions outlined below. Warranty returns are covered under a separate warranty policy.

Return Eligibility

To be eligible for a non-warranty return:

  • The return request must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The product must have been purchased directly from Peach State Pottery.
  • The product carton must remain sealed and unopened.
  • The product must be unused, uninstalled, unmarked, and not energized.
  • The product must be returned in its original, unmarked carton with all included materials and documentation.
  • The product must not be a special order or custom-configured unit.
  • A Return Merchandise Authorization, or RMA, must be approved before anything is shipped back.

Please do not ship any product back without first receiving return authorization.

Off-the-Shelf Stock Units

Standard stock units, including the HS-360, HS-1200, and HS-18K in unmodified condition, may be eligible for return under the conditions listed in this policy.

  • Approved stock unit returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • Returns must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The customer is responsible for prepaid freight back to the warehouse.
  • The product must pass inspection before a refund is approved.

If the product is not in as-new, resellable condition, you will be notified and offered the option to have it returned to you at your expense.

Modified Stock Units

Units upgraded or modified from their original stock configuration, including controller upgrades or custom configurations, are subject to a 25% restocking fee and must meet all other return conditions listed above.

Special Order & Custom Units

Special order or custom-made units are products specifically designed, modified, or manufactured to meet unique customer specifications.

These units are not returnable under any circumstances unless covered by an approved warranty claim.

Refurbished & Scratch & Dent Units

Refurbished units and scratch-and-dent models are discounted due to cosmetic flaws or handling damage. These units are fully tested and functional but are sold as-is and are not returnable.

Product Must Be Unopened

Any product whose carton seal has been broken, installed, energized, or marked in any way is not considered suitable for resale and will not be accepted for return.

Restocking Fee

Approved returns of eligible HotShot stock units are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Original shipping costs are not credited or refunded. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise stated under an approved warranty claim.

Return Process

To start a return, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and reason for return. We will help coordinate the next steps.

  1. Request return authorization.
  2. Wait for RMA approval before shipping anything back.
  3. Repackage the product carefully in its original, unmarked packaging.
  4. Ship the product prepaid and insured to the designated return address.
  5. The product will be inspected after arrival.
  6. If approved, your refund or credit will be processed.

Return Shipping Damage

Peach State Pottery is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping.

We strongly recommend taking photos of the return packaging before shipment and using a prepaid, insured shipping method. Any damage that occurs during return shipping may be deducted from your refund.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, you will be notified whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
