Returns: request within 15 days, unused

Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:

  • Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
  • It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
  • A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
  • Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.

Will it work in my space? Power check

Not included: 15″ × 15″ kiln shelf and the Universal Oven Stand; Hot Shot sells both as options. Runs on a standard 120V, 15-amp outlet.

Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

What’s included
The kiln itself, assembled and wired Built and wired in West Bend, Wisconsin, and shipped ready to connect. The type K thermocouple and the 40-amp solid-state relay are already installed inside it. The relay is an internal switching component, not the controller — the controller is a separate branded unit you choose when you order.
One programmable controller, as selected You pick the controller at the time of order. HotShot lists two on this model: the Bartlett Genesis Spark touchscreen or the TAP II Pro programmable full-color touchscreen. One controller ships with the kiln.
Attached power cord and molded plug The cord is fitted at the factory with a molded plug — 6 ft on the 120V/15A build. HotShot publishes amp ratings only and no NEMA plug code for any of its models, so we check the plug against the outlet you are going to use before your order ships.
User manual and controller manual The kiln manual plus the separate manual for whichever controller you chose — HotShot issues those as distinct documents, so you get the one that matches your unit.
Warranty — we confirm the term for your model HotShot warranty terms vary by family and by build year across this line, and HotShot publishes no term for this model. Rather than print a number we cannot stand behind, we get the term in writing from the factory before your order ships.
Not included Stand or bench, knife rack, kiln posts, shelves and any other kiln furniture are separate purchases. No HotShot manual or product page lists any of them as shipping with a kiln. The argon gas kit, where a model takes one, is also a separate item.

Common questions
What’s the difference between fusing and slumping, and can this kiln do both?
Yes, the HS-16G handles both fusing and slumping. Fusing joins pieces of glass together at temperatures around 1400–1500°F to create flat designs, while slumping heats fused glass to around 1200–1300°F to drape it into molds for bowls or plates. The 1700°F maximum temperature provides headroom for full fusing, and the programmable controller allows you to set precise ramp rates and hold times for both techniques. Most glass artists use this kiln for small-scale jewelry, decorative tiles, and tableware projects.
Does this kiln require special electrical wiring?
No. The HS-16G runs on standard 120-volt household current and plugs into a regular 3-prong outlet. It draws 15 amps at full power and is made for a standard 15-amp household outlet—avoid running other high-draw appliances on the same circuit while it fires. You won't need an electrician unless your outlet is shared with other high-draw appliances. Check your breaker panel to confirm you have a dedicated circuit available.
What size glass projects fit in the HS-16G?
The 16″ × 16″ chamber takes Hot Shot’s 15″ × 15″ kiln shelf, which leaves clearance from the walls for glass pieces up to about 15″ × 15″. The 6″ height limits you to relatively flat work—full fusing, jewelry components, small bowls, tiles, and sun catchers. If you're slumping into deep molds, measure your mold height plus the thickness of your fused blank to ensure it fits. For larger plates or deeper vessels, you'll need a kiln with a taller chamber.
How do I program firing schedules on the controller?
The touchscreen controller (TAP II or Genesis Spark) lets you set ramp rates (degrees per hour), target temperatures, and hold times for each stage of the firing. Most glass fusing schedules use 3–5 segments: a slow ramp to fusing temperature, a hold for glass flow, a controlled cool to annealing temperature, an anneal hold, and a final cool. The manual includes common firing schedules for different glass types (COE 90, COE 96), and you can save custom programs for repeated use.
Is this kiln covered by a warranty, and do I need to buy from an authorized dealer?
Yes. Hot Shot provides a one-year limited warranty on the HS-16G, but it's only valid when purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery. You must register your kiln within 30 days of delivery to activate warranty coverage. Buying from an unauthorized seller voids the warranty and may mean you receive a used, refurbished, or improperly stored unit.
