Common questions
What’s the difference between fusing and slumping, and can this kiln do both?
Yes, the HS-16G handles both fusing and slumping. Fusing joins pieces of glass together at temperatures around 1400–1500°F to create flat designs, while slumping heats fused glass to around 1200–1300°F to drape it into molds for bowls or plates. The 1700°F maximum temperature provides headroom for full fusing, and the programmable controller allows you to set precise ramp rates and hold times for both techniques. Most glass artists use this kiln for small-scale jewelry, decorative tiles, and tableware projects.
Does this kiln require special electrical wiring?
No. The HS-16G runs on standard 120-volt household current and plugs into a regular 3-prong outlet. It draws 15 amps at full power, so it should be on a dedicated 20-amp circuit to avoid tripping breakers—most modern kitchens and workshops already have these. You won't need an electrician unless your outlet is shared with other high-draw appliances. Check your breaker panel to confirm you have a dedicated circuit available.
What size glass projects fit in the HS-16G?
The 16″ × 16″ shelf accommodates up to a 15″ × 15″ glass piece with adequate clearance from the walls. The 6″ height limits you to relatively flat work—full fusing, jewelry components, small bowls, tiles, and sun catchers. If you're slumping into deep molds, measure your mold height plus the thickness of your fused blank to ensure it fits. For larger plates or deeper vessels, you'll need a kiln with a taller chamber.
How do I program firing schedules on the controller?
The digital controller stores up to 8 segments per program, allowing you to set ramp rates (degrees per hour), target temperatures, and hold times for each stage of the firing. Most glass fusing schedules use 3–5 segments: a slow ramp to fusing temperature, a hold for glass flow, a controlled cool to annealing temperature, an anneal hold, and a final cool. The manual includes common firing schedules for different glass types (COE 90, COE 96), and you can save custom programs for repeated use.
Is this kiln covered by a warranty, and do I need to buy from an authorized dealer?
Yes. Hot Shot provides a one-year limited warranty on the HS-16G, but it's only valid when purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery. You must register your kiln within 30 days of delivery to activate warranty coverage. Buying from an unauthorized seller voids the warranty and may mean you receive a used, refurbished, or improperly stored unit. We're an authorized dealer and handle warranty claims directly with Hot Shot.

Off-the-Shelf Stock Units

Standard stock units, including the HS-360, HS-1200, and HS-18K in unmodified condition, may be eligible for return under the conditions listed in this policy.

  • Approved stock unit returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • Returns must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The customer is responsible for prepaid freight back to the warehouse.
  • The product must pass inspection before a refund is approved.

If the product is not in as-new, resellable condition, you will be notified and offered the option to have it returned to you at your expense.

Modified Stock Units

Units upgraded or modified from their original stock configuration, including controller upgrades or custom configurations, are subject to a 25% restocking fee and must meet all other return conditions listed above.

Special Order & Custom Units

Special order or custom-made units are products specifically designed, modified, or manufactured to meet unique customer specifications.

These units are not returnable under any circumstances unless covered by an approved warranty claim.

Refurbished & Scratch & Dent Units

Refurbished units and scratch-and-dent models are discounted due to cosmetic flaws or handling damage. These units are fully tested and functional but are sold as-is and are not returnable.

Product Must Be Unopened

Any product whose carton seal has been broken, installed, energized, or marked in any way is not considered suitable for resale and will not be accepted for return.

Restocking Fee

Approved returns of eligible HotShot stock units are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Original shipping costs are not credited or refunded. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise stated under an approved warranty claim.

Return Process

To start a return, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and reason for return. We will help coordinate the next steps.

  1. Request return authorization.
  2. Wait for RMA approval before shipping anything back.
  3. Repackage the product carefully in its original, unmarked packaging.
  4. Ship the product prepaid and insured to the designated return address.
  5. The product will be inspected after arrival.
  6. If approved, your refund or credit will be processed.

Return Shipping Damage

Peach State Pottery is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping.

We strongly recommend taking photos of the return packaging before shipment and using a prepaid, insured shipping method. Any damage that occurs during return shipping may be deducted from your refund.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, you will be notified whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
