Authorized Evenheat dealer · full factory warranty

Brand new and shipped direct from Evenheat, so it carries Evenheat's full factory warranty. If something goes wrong, call us and we handle the claim with the factory for you.

Warranty terms are in the Warranty and support section below.

Returns: request within 15 days, unused

Because kilns are heavy and often built to order, returns are limited, so we'd rather help you pick the right one up front:

  • Ask within 15 days of purchase or 2 days after delivery, whichever comes first. We issue a return authorization (RA).
  • It must be new, unused (beyond the factory test fire) and in its original packaging.
  • A restocking fee of at least 25% applies, up to 50% on custom, 3-phase or made-to-order units. Return freight is on the buyer unless we made an error.
  • Damaged in transit? Note it on the delivery receipt, send us photos and we'll help with the freight claim.

Will it work in my space? Power check

Most 240V kilns need their own circuit and the matching outlet, installed by an electrician. Homes are usually 240V; schools and commercial buildings are often 208V, so pick the voltage that matches your panel.

Send us a photo of your breaker panel or outlet and we'll confirm before your kiln is built: 470-264-3563 (call or text).

Overview

Evenheat · Salt Bath Oven · Molten Salt Hardening Evenheat Salt Bath - 709 Model EH-SB-709 · 120V · 7″ W × 7″ L × 9″ D · 2000°F max The 709 hardens steel by immersing the blade in a bath of molten salt instead of heating it in open air. Once submerged, the piece reaches hardening temperature almost immediately and soaks in an oxygen-free environment with tighter, more uniform heat than an air oven can match. Sized for folder makers and anyone working short steels, the 709 runs on a standard 120V/18A circuit — no electrician required — while still holding a full 2000°F.
Max Temp2000°F (1093°C)
Chamber7″ W × 7″ L × 9″ D
Voltage120V, 18A
Salt Pot Capacityup to 5.5″ OD, 16″ deep
What’s included
The kiln, assembledBuilt in sections and wired, with the elements in place and the salt pot access hole cut. Set it up, ground your pot and go.
Digital controller, fittedThe TAP control with Evenheat’s dedicated salt bath software, installed at the factory. This is the control Evenheat specifies for salt bath work.
Three thermocouples, installedAn immersion thermocouple, a chamber thermocouple and an over-temperature thermocouple, all fitted and wired at the factory.
Drip shields, fittedIn place when it arrives, to keep splashed salt off the control panel and the electrics.
Attached power cord and plugThe cord is fitted at the factory with a moulded plug. This build lands on a NEMA 5-20 outlet — have one in place before the kiln arrives.
Salt pot sold separatelyNo salt pot is in the crate. The kiln takes pots up to 5.5" across and around 16" deep, and Evenheat sells stainless pots as an accessory — ask us to quote one.
Salt pot grounding — ask usThe kiln is built with the salt pot access hole and the grounding provision for a pot. The pot itself has to be grounded, so if you are supplying your own, talk to us about the ground hardware first.
Loud alarm unit not includedThe output jack for the loud alarm is fitted, but the alarm itself is an accessory. Say the word and we will put one in the crate.
Key features
Salt Pot Grounding & Access HoleEvenheat cuts the salt pot access hole and builds in the grounding provision a pot bonds to — a critical safety feature when working with electrically conductive molten salt. The pot itself is sold separately and must carry that grounding feature.
Triple Thermocouple Safety SystemImmersion, chamber, and over-temperature thermocouples work together to monitor the bath from three angles and shut down safely if any reading goes out of range.
Stainless Steel Drip ShieldsCatch and contain any salt splash or drip around the pot opening, keeping the surrounding cabinet and floor clean.
Sectional Chamber DesignThe heating chamber is built in serviceable sections, so element or insulation maintenance doesn't require replacing the whole unit.
Swing-View Control EnclosurePivoting control housing lets you angle the display for programming, then lay flat to monitor bath temperature from across the bench.
Quiet Drive Solid State RelayZero moving parts and up to 60 firings per second, holding tight temperature control on a molten bath where consistency directly affects hardness.

Spare Salt PotKeep a second pot on hand so a pot due for cleaning or replacement never takes the oven out of service.
Replacement Thermocouple SetSpares for the immersion, chamber, and over-temperature probes keep the triple safety system intact without a service delay.
Quench Tongs & BasketPurpose-sized tongs and a dip basket for pulling blades cleanly from the molten bath for transfer to quench.
Controller upgrades
TAP Touchscreen with Salt Bath Software — SDS IndustriesStandard Equipment
Every 709 ships standard with the TAP touchscreen running Evenheat's dedicated salt bath software — this isn't an upgrade on salt bath models, it's how the bath's triple thermocouple system and safety interlocks are managed. You still get full remote monitoring and program logging from your phone.
  • Unlimited programs and firing steps
  • TAP mobile app — monitor from your phone
  • Push notifications when firing completes
  • Adjust temp or add time mid-cycle
  • Auto-updates over Wi-Fi
  • Firing logs and maintenance schedules
Genesis Spark — Bartlett InstrumentsAlternate Option
Genesis Spark is available as an alternate controller on request, but most shops keep the standard TAP salt bath software since it's purpose-built for the triple thermocouple monitoring a molten salt bath requires. Ask us before ordering if you specifically need Genesis Spark.
  • 30 programs × 32 segments each
  • 3.2″ color touchscreen display
  • Wi-Fi for remote updates and diagnostics
  • Ramp/hold and preset modes
  • Preheat capability built in
  • Adjust firing in real time
Common questions
What is salt bath hardening and why use it over an air oven? The blade is submerged in molten salt rather than heated in air. Because the salt is already at temperature, the steel comes up to heat almost instantly and soaks in a consistent, oxygen-free environment — which means less scale, less decarburization, and more even hardness than many air ovens can deliver.
What kind of salt do I need, and is it dangerous?Evenheat salt baths run standard neutral hardening salts sold by bladesmithing and heat-treat suppliers. Molten salt is a serious hazard if mishandled — splash and steam-explosion risk from wet steel or tools is real — so proper PPE, dry tongs and workpieces, and following Evenheat's operating guidance are non-negotiable.
How is the 709 different from the other Evenheat salt bath sizes? The 709 is a compact 120V unit sized for folders and short blades. The 718 steps up to an 18″-deep pot on a 240V circuit for full-length blades, and the 818 adds both depth and pot diameter on the same 240V service for the largest work — Evenheat's best seller in the lineup. Pick based on the longest blade or largest cross-section you regularly harden.
Do I have to buy the TAP salt bath controller, or can I skip it?TAP with dedicated salt bath software ships standard on every model — it isn't an optional upgrade here because the triple thermocouple safety system is built around it. A Genesis Spark alternate is available on request; ask us before ordering.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Evenheat dealer, so your two-year warranty is fully valid and you have direct access to Evenheat's support team. Buying from an unauthorized seller can void your warranty entirely.
