Common questions
Will this oven handle the steels I'm working with?At 2400°F maximum, the KO 27 exceeds the austenitizing temperature of every common blade steel—including high-alloy steels like CPM-154, S30V, and even demanding stainless grades like 440C. You'll have headroom above your target temperature for faster recovery when the door opens.
Why is the 27-inch depth important?The 27-inch chamber depth is designed for long blades—swords, machetes, large bowies, and chef knives up to about 24 inches. If you're working with shorter blades (under 18 inches), consider the KO 18. The deep chamber also accommodates multiple shorter blades staged vertically on racks for batch heat treating.
What's the advantage of the side-opening door?Heat treating requires fast blade removal for quenching. A drop-down door puts a 2000°F+ surface directly in your path, radiating intense heat at your hands, arms, and face. The side-opening door swings completely out of your way—up to 180°—keeping that radiant heat away from you while you focus on safely transferring the blade to the quench tank.
Do I need a special electrical circuit for this oven?Yes. The KO 27 requires a dedicated 240V, 40-amp circuit. This is standard for heat treating equipment of this capacity. You'll need a licensed electrician to install the appropriate breaker and receptacle—budget $300–$800 depending on distance from your electrical panel and local rates.
