Common questions
What does "annealing" mean, and why do I need a kiln for it?Working copper and other metals — hammering, rolling, or bending them — makes the metal progressively harder and more likely to crack. Annealing heats the piece to a specific temperature to soften it again so you can keep forming it. A dedicated kiln gives you even, repeatable heat instead of the hot spots and guesswork of a handheld torch.
Can this replace a torch for small studio work? For controlled, repeatable annealing of sheet, wire, and small components, yes — it's more consistent than torch annealing and safer for extended studio use. For large-scale forming or spot heating of a big piece, a torch still has its place alongside the kiln.
Is the 120V or 240V version right for my studio? The 120V version runs on standard household current (12A, NEMA 5-15) with no electrician needed and is the more popular choice for home and small studios. The 240V version pulls less amperage per volt and heats a bit faster if you already have a 240V circuit available — let us know your setup and we'll confirm the right fit.
Is this a full replacement for a ceramics kiln? Not quite — at 2200°F it covers china painting, enameling, glass fusing/slumping, metal clay, and most low- to mid-fire ceramic work, but it won't reach Cone 10 stoneware temperatures. For copper annealing and multi-craft studio use in that temperature range, it's an excellent compact fit.
Is the Copper Annealing Kiln in stock and ready to ship? This model is built by Evenheat and can carry a longer factory lead time than our stocked kilns. Contact us before you order to confirm current availability and an accurate ship date for your project timeline.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Evenheat dealer, so your two-year warranty is fully valid and you have direct access to Evenheat's support team. Buying from an unauthorized seller can void your warranty entirely.
