What this size is for

Seven cubic feet and up is production territory. The band includes large top loaders, front loading electric kilns, car kilns where the floor rolls out, and downdraft gas kilns for reduction firing. Chambers run from 7 cubic feet past 50.

Buy this size if firing is central to how you operate: potters shipping work regularly, university and college ceramics departments, community studios with many members, and anyone who needs reduction firing at scale.

Electrical requirements get serious.Many of these are available in three phase, and several states require solid state relays on larger kilns. Confirm what your building supplies before ordering, because the kiln is built to the configuration you select.
Freight may need to be quoted individually.The largest kilns need special handling to unload and place. Contact us before ordering so we can sort the delivery out properly rather than discovering a problem on the day.
Lead times are longer at this size.Large kilns are built to order and the queue is longer than for studio models. If you are working to an academic year, talk to us early.

Questions about these kilns

What is a car kiln?

A car kiln has a floor that rolls out on rails, so you load shelves at waist height outside the chamber and roll the whole load in. For heavy production work it saves an enormous amount of lifting.

Electric or gas at this size?

Gas fires in reduction, which produces glaze and clay results an electric kiln cannot reproduce. Electric is easier to install, usually cheaper to run, and needs no flue. If you need reduction, you need gas.

Do you accept purchase orders and provide written quotes?

Yes. We work with schools, colleges, universities and businesses. Use our Commercial Quotes page or call or text (470) 264-3563 and we will put pricing in writing so it can go through your approval process.

How much power does a kiln this size draw?

Substantially more than a studio kiln, and many models are offered in three phase to reduce the amperage. Exact amperage and breaker requirements are on each product page. This is a conversation to have with an electrician before you order, not after.

How is a kiln this large delivered?

By freight, curbside, with liftgate where it is needed. The largest models may need equipment to unload. Contact us before ordering and we will work out the delivery and give you a delivered cost.

Is a front loader worth the extra cost?

If several people load it, or you fire heavy work, usually yes. You load shelves without leaning down into a chamber, which matters for backs and for large pieces. Front loaders also tend to hold heat more evenly.

How long are lead times?

Longer than studio models, because these are built to order. The estimate is shown on each product page. Contact us for the current factory lead time before you commit to a schedule.

Do you install these?

Delivery is curbside. Installation, electrical connection and venting are arranged locally by you. We will tell you exactly what the kiln needs so your electrician can plan ahead.
