Olympic Kilns · Electric Kiln · Oval Olympic 2527HE Oval Electric Kiln 2527HE · 208/240V, 1-Phase or 3-Phase · 37″ W × 25″ D · 12.8 cu ft · Cone 10 / 2350°F The 2527HE is Olympic's large-capacity oval kiln, built to fire long, wide loads that a round chamber simply can't fit — platters, large sculptural work, and full shelves of production ware. At 12.8 cubic feet it holds significantly more than a standard round kiln in a similar footprint, and it ships with a combined lid lift and stand plus a built-in electronic controller, so it's ready to go to work the day it's wired in.

Key features
The kiln, with its elements installedThe brick sections arrive with Olympic's heavy gauge coiled elements already set in their grooves and wired. This kiln ships as sections on a pallet together with its stand: the manual has you take the sections off the pallet and restack them on the stand where the kiln will live.
Bartlett KilnStar controller, fitted and wiredThe KilnStar is the standard controller on this kiln and it is installed and wired at the factory. The Genesis touchscreen is a paid upgrade taken at order time, and Olympic's 2026 range no longer offers the RTC-1000, Kiln Sitter, 3-key or V6-CF, so nothing legacy ships here.
One Type K thermocouple and the pilot lightA single Type K thermocouple comes installed and wired to the controller. The control panel also carries a pilot indicator light that comes on whenever the kiln is live. Extra thermocouples only arrive with the 2-zone or 3-zone option, and a Type S is a paid substitution.
The combined lid lift and standOlympic's oval line ships one assembly that is both the stand and the lid lift, so the lid assist is built into the stand rather than added to it. The manual requires it: “Your kiln must be fired only on the metal stand provided.”
Observation plugsHollow ceramic peephole plugs ship with the kiln. Olympic publishes no count for any model, in its manuals or on its site, so we will not print a number here. Ask and we will confirm yours with the factory. Replacements are a stock part.
The operating manual and a one-year warrantyOlympic's printed operating manual travels with the kiln. Olympic's limited warranty runs two years, cut to one year on Kiln-Sitter models and on any kiln rated at cone 10. This one is rated to cone 10, so one year. Register with Olympic within 30 days of delivery and keep your invoice.
Cord and plug, or direct wired, set by your buildOlympic's plug configuration row gives a NEMA 6-30 or 6-50 plug on lower-amperage builds and Direct Wired on higher-amperage ones, and several models are listed as either. The manual hedges the same way, with “If your kiln is equipped with a power cord...”. Tell us your voltage, phase and service and we confirm which one you get before the order goes in.
Not included: furniture, vent and hookupNo kiln furniture. Every Olympic line has its own separately priced furniture kit and shelves and posts are priced one by one. The VentMaster downdraft vent, stilts, gloves, tongs, kiln wash and a pyrometer are all separate items, and no receptacle, breaker, wire or disconnect ships with the kiln.
Key features
KilnStar Digital Controller Pre-programmed with Cone Fire and Ramp/Hold modes. Features delay start, alarm, and thermocouple offset adjustment.
3-Inch Brick Insulation High-efficiency firebrick construction reduces energy consumption and improves firing performance to Cone 10.
Oval Firing Chamber 37″ wide by 25″ deep oval chamber fits long platters, large sculpture, and wide production loads round kilns can't accommodate.
Combined Lid Lift & Stand Integrated lift-assist mechanism built into the stand makes opening and closing this large, heavy lid manageable for one person.
Stainless Steel Jacket Durable outer shell with corrosion resistance. Provides structural support and a clean, professional appearance.
Balanced Element Design Heavy gauge coiled elements arranged across the oval chamber for even heat distribution during Cone 10 firings.
Observation Plugs Peepholes at multiple chamber heights let you check pyrometric cones visually during firing without opening the lid.
Type K Thermocouple Industrial-grade temperature sensor positioned for accurate chamber temperature reading.
Optional accessories
Solid State Relay (SSR) Upgrade Replaces mechanical contactors (mercury relays) for silent operation and extended element life on this heavy-use kiln.
Kiln Furniture Kit Shelves, posts, and stilts sized for the 37″ oval chamber. Essential for stacking large or long ware efficiently.
Orton Kiln Vent System Downdraft venting system removes fumes and moisture during firing. Improves studio air quality and glaze results.
Solid Electrical Box Enclosed electrical box option for additional protection in dusty studio or classroom environments.
3-Zone Temperature Control Independent control of front, middle, and back element zones. Compensates for heat variance across this large oval chamber.
Power Interrupt Safety System Automatically shuts down kiln if lid is opened during firing. Adds safety protection in multi-user studio environments.
3-Phase Wiring Configuration Reduces amperage draw compared to 1-phase for facilities with 3-phase service already in place.
Cone 8 Configuration Available for studios that fire exclusively at mid-range temperatures and want a lower max-temp element configuration.
Emergency Parts Kit Spare thermocouple, element connectors, and relay components. Minimizes downtime if a component failure occurs.
Type S Thermocouple Upgrade Platinum-based sensor for improved accuracy and longevity at high temperatures. Recommended for frequent Cone 8-10 firings.
Controller upgrade
Genesis Touchscreen — Bartlett InstrumentsRecommended
The Genesis controller replaces the standard KilnStar with a full-color touchscreen interface and expanded programming capabilities. Store unlimited custom firing schedules with up to 32 segments each, monitor real-time temperature graphs, and access diagnostic data through the intuitive menu system — valuable for tracking performance across the long firing cycles this large chamber requires.
  • 4.3-inch full-color touchscreen with graphical temperature display
  • Unlimited program storage with cloud backup capability via USB
  • Up to 32 segments per program for complex firing schedules
  • Real-time graphing shows temperature curve during firing
  • Advanced diagnostics including element resistance tracking and firing history logs
  • Cone Fire mode with Orton cone temperature equivalents pre-programmed
Common questions
Why choose an oval kiln over a round one?
An oval chamber makes far better use of floor space for long or wide ware — platters, trays, sculptural pieces, and wide production shelves — than a round kiln of similar capacity. The 2527HE's 37″ width lets you load pieces that simply wouldn't fit through the opening or across the shelf of most round kilns this size.
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?
Yes. The 2527HE is direct-wired and requires a dedicated circuit sized to your configuration — up to 80 amps for 1-phase 208V service, or as low as 50 amps on 3-phase service. A licensed electrician must determine the correct breaker, wire gauge, and connection for your building's available power, and installation must meet local electrical codes.
Does the lid lift assist come standard?
Yes. The 2527HE ships with a combined lid lift and stand as a standard feature, not an optional add-on — given the size and weight of this lid, it's built in from the factory rather than sold separately like it is on smaller Olympic models.
Does this kiln come with shelves and posts?
No. Kiln furniture is sold separately because different users have different needs based on the work they're firing. For a 12.8 cubic foot oval chamber, we recommend a furniture kit with multiple full-length shelves and a full assortment of posts and stilts. Contact Peach State Pottery for a recommendation sized to your typical loads.
How do I register my warranty?
Register your kiln at the Olympic Kilns website within 30 days of delivery. You'll need your serial number (located on the control panel label), purchase date, and proof of purchase from an authorized dealer. Warranty registration is required for coverage and must be completed within the 30-day window. Peach State Pottery can assist with registration if needed.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Olympic Kilns manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Olympic Kilns dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
