Jen-Ken · Ceramic Kiln · AF3C Series Jen-Ken AF3C 15/13 "The Emerge" Ceramic Kiln Model AF3C 15/13 · 240V · 15" x 13" chamber · Cone 8 / 2,300°F The Emerge is the kiln Jen-Ken built for the person moving out of a community studio and into their own space. It is 1.4 cubic feet, draws 22 amps on 240V, and runs from the same class of 30-amp circuit a household dryer uses — so it usually goes in without a service upgrade. Jen-Ken rates it for ceramics, pottery and glass, which makes it a reasonable single kiln for someone who does both. It is small: a 15" x 13" chamber fires a real load of mugs, not a body of large work.

Key features
The kiln, built and wiredCase, elements, thermocouple, switch box and wiring are all fitted and tested at the factory. It ships crated on a pallet by motor freight.
The controller you orderJen-Ken fits the controller you pick when the order goes in — the AF3C 3-button, the AutoFire 12-button, the AutoFire Slide touchscreen or the TAP touchscreen. Each one is a different price, so the controller that ships is the one on your order rather than a fixed model.
Cord and plug — NEMA 6-30PJen-Ken wires the cord and plug at the factory. You supply the matching receptacle on its own circuit — the breaker size and wire gauge for this model are in the specifications below.
Instruction manualJen-Ken's printed manual, including firing schedules and their electrical requirements.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Not included — kiln furnitureNo shelves, posts or kiln wash in the crate. Jen-Ken prices a furniture kit for this model as a separate line, and we stock the pieces on our accessories pages. Solid-state relays are a paid upgrade rather than standard.

Common questions
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, 22A draw. Jen-Ken pairs it with a NEMA 6-30R receptacle, a 30A breaker and #10 circuit wire. That is dryer-class power, but the kiln needs its own dedicated run. A kiln is a continuous load, so have a licensed electrician confirm the breaker and wire against your local code before delivery. Jen-Ken also notes that runs over 30 feet from the breaker may need the next heavier gauge.
What can it actually fire?Jen-Ken designs it to fire up to cone 8 at 2,300°F, which covers low-fire, mid-fire stoneware and porcelain. It will not reach cone 10. Jen-Ken also lists it for glass, so fusing and slumping schedules are within range.
Is 1.4 cubic feet enough? It depends what you make. It is a genuine working kiln for mugs, bowls and small sculpture, and it will fire a full load rather than a couple of test tiles. If you throw platters or tall vases, or you want to fire a month of production at once, look at the 1822 or larger.
One note on Jen-Ken's own pageJen-Ken's page carries a heading mentioning cone 9 while the body copy says it is designed to fire up to cone 8. We publish cone 8, which is the rating in the body text and the one consistent with a 2,300°F kiln.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
What actually comes in the crate? The section at the top of this page is that list, and it comes from Jen-Ken’s own dealer price sheet for this model rather than from a guess. Kiln furniture is the thing most people assume is in the crate and is not — Jen-Ken prices the shelves and posts as a separate kit. Call or email us if you want the crate confirmed against your build before you order.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Not sure if The Emerge is big enough? We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Tell us what you make and what power you have available, and we will tell you straight whether this is the right kiln — including when a cheaper one would do.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
