The relay is the switch that actually carries element current, clicking on and off as the controller holds temperature, and it is one of the highest-wear parts in the kiln — a relay that has stuck closed will keep heating past the setpoint, and one that has stuck open will stall the firing.

Relays are not interchangeable across models: the PRD and T9 families differ in contact arrangement as well as rating, and the T927 is specific to the E models. Read the part number off the relay you are replacing, or send us the model and serial number.

Common questions
How do I know a relay has failed?A stuck-closed relay keeps a section heating when it should be off, so the kiln overshoots or fires unevenly. A stuck-open one leaves a section cold and the firing stalls. Relays also get noisy and slow to click before they fail outright.
Single throw or double throw?Whatever the original is. Read the part number off the relay body — it is printed on the case — and match it. If you cannot read it, send us a photo and the kiln's model.
Should I replace all of them at once?It is worth considering. The relays in a panel have all switched roughly the same number of cycles, so when one goes the others are usually close behind. Ask us and we will price the set.
How do I know this is the right part for my kiln?Send us the model and serial number off the kiln's data plate, at sales@peachstatepottery.com or (470) 264-3563. Cress built kilns for decades and their part lists use a shorthand that does not always map cleanly onto a model name, so we check it by hand rather than letting you guess.
Are these genuine Cress parts?Yes. We are an authorized Cress dealer and everything here is ordered from Cress in Carson City, Nevada, against their current parts list.
What if Cress no longer makes the part I need?Tell us the part anyway. Cress is still manufacturing, and where a part has been superseded they usually have a current equivalent — we would rather find it for you than let you buy the wrong thing.
