The firing chamber measures 8" wide x 8" long x 6.75" deep, roughly 0.25 cubic feet, so this is a bench-top kiln for jewelry, tests and small pieces rather than production ware. The two-piece body separates into top and bottom sections for transport, the 120V model plugs into a standard household outlet, and the Sentinel Touch Xpress touchscreen controller handles ramp and hold programming. Every Caldera is built to order in your choice of eight kiln colors at no extra charge.

Caldera or Caldera XL

Paragon builds two kilns under the Caldera name and they are easy to mix up. The Caldera on this page has the wider, shallower chamber. The Caldera XL is a separate model with a narrower but much taller chamber, and it carries a higher price. Both share the same maximum temperature, the same 2.5" firebrick and the same Sentinel Touch Xpress controller, so the choice comes down to the shape of the work you fire.

Common questions
What can I fire in the Paragon Caldera? The Caldera fires to Cone 10 (2350°F), making it suitable for metal clay jewelry (silver, bronze, copper), small ceramic, porcelain and stoneware pieces, china painting, decals, enameling on metal, and glass fusing and slumping. The chamber is 8" wide x 8" long x 6.75" deep, roughly 0.25 cubic feet, and takes a 7" square shelf. That makes it a test and jewelry kiln: glaze and clay test tiles, jewelry, small sculpture and fused glass pieces that fit inside an 8" square footprint. Shelves and posts are not included, so add the furniture kit if you do not already have one.
Can I plug the 120V version into a standard outlet, or do I need an electrician? The 120V Caldera draws 14 amps at 1680 watts and ships with a NEMA 5-15 plug, the standard household configuration, so no new receptacle is normally required. Because a kiln pulls that current for the whole firing, put it on a circuit of its own and do not run it on an extension cord or a shared circuit with other appliances. If you are unsure what else is on the circuit, have a licensed electrician confirm your wiring meets National Electrical Code requirements. Paragon also builds the Caldera in a 240V single phase version for 220-240V service, but does not publish its amp draw or plug type, so contact us before ordering that build.
What colors is the Caldera available in? Paragon paints the Caldera in eight colors at no extra charge: berry, black, blue, hot pink, jade, navy, purple and turquoise. Pick yours from the options above before adding the kiln to your cart. Every Caldera is built to order, so the color is applied at the factory rather than added later.
How portable is the stackable design? Can one person move it? Yes. The whole kiln ships at roughly 50 lbs, and the two-piece body separates into top and bottom sections that are lighter still. With the steel stand it stands 13" wide x 19.5" deep x 13.75" high, so it fits on a bench, in a car boot or in the back seat. That makes the Caldera practical for traveling instructors, workshops and seminars, and small enough to keep in a spare room or garage studio.

Your Caldera includes a one-year limited manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. You must register your kiln with Paragon within 30 days of delivery for the warranty to be valid. Purchasing from an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery ensures you receive genuine Paragon products, full factory warranty coverage, and access to technical support. Kilns purchased from unauthorized resellers or used may not qualify for warranty service.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet.
