Common questions
What types of steel can I heat treat in the KM18 Pro?
The KM18 Pro reaches 2350°F, making it suitable for virtually all knife steels including high-carbon steels (1095, 1084, 5160), stainless steels (440C, AEB-L, CPM-154), tool steels (D2, A2, O1), and Damascus composites. This temperature range covers the hardening requirements for both simple carbon steels and complex stainless alloys. The extra-wide chamber lets you harden more blades per load for efficient workflow.
Do I need a gas inlet port for atmosphere control?
For most knife heat treating, the standard oven without atmosphere control is sufficient. However, if you're working with reactive stainless steels that require scale-free finishes or need to prevent decarburization on high-carbon blades, you can add an optional gas inlet port for argon or nitrogen atmosphere. Many knife makers achieve excellent results without atmosphere control by using anti-scale compounds or foil wrapping.
What controller comes standard and how does it work?
The KM18 Pro Double Barrel includes one Sentinel touchscreen controller that lets you set precise target temperatures and hold times. It uses three thermocouples to control three heating zones, so the temperature stays even along the full chamber length. The rapid heating ceramic fiber construction means you reach set temperatures quickly, reducing wait time between cycles.
How does the KM18 Pro compare to single-chamber knife ovens?
The Double Barrel has one chamber that is much wider than the standard KM18 Pro, so you can load more blades per cycle. Everything in a load runs the same program. The 18-inch chamber length accommodates full-size blades and swords, while 3-zone control keeps heating even across the larger chamber. For professional knife makers or serious hobbyists, the KM18 Pro eliminates production bottlenecks.
Why do I need to buy from an authorized Paragon dealer?
Paragon's one-year warranty is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery, and the warranty must be registered within 30 days of delivery. Authorized dealers provide proper technical support, installation guidance, and access to factory-trained service. Purchasing from unauthorized sources voids your warranty and leaves you without manufacturer support for this specialized heat treating equipment.
Not sure if the KM18 Pro is the right heat treating oven for your shop? Our kiln specialists can help you compare Paragon knife ovens, discuss electrical requirements, and recommend the best setup for your production volume and blade sizes.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Paragon manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Paragon dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
