Common questions

Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?Absolutely. A kiln this size drawing 160 amps at 240V (184 amps at 208V) on a 200-amp breaker requires a licensed electrician to install dedicated 240V or 208V service with appropriately sized wire, conduit, and breaker protection. This is not a plug-in appliance—it requires hardwired installation that meets local electrical codes. Factor installation costs into your budget.

How many shelves can I fit in this kiln?The standard furniture kit provides 4 layers of shelving, which is a practical starting point for most production work. Depending on your work height and firing needs, you can configure more or fewer layers. The 45" interior height gives you substantial flexibility for tall pieces or dense stacking.

How does the car loading system work?The entire kiln chamber is mounted on a heavy-duty cart that rolls out on steel rails embedded in your floor. You load your work on the cart while it's fully extended outside the kiln, then roll the loaded cart back into the firing position. This eliminates the need to reach deep into a chamber and makes loading sculptural or heavy production work much safer and more ergonomic.

Should I add a solid state relay?Yes—especially for production-scale use. Solid state relays provide tighter temperature control for more consistent results, extend element life by reducing thermal shock, lower your electrical costs, and eliminate the mechanical wear that eventually requires relay replacement. On a kiln this size firing regularly, a solid state relay pays for itself.

Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty?No. We are an authorized Olympic Kilns dealer. Your one-year warranty is fully valid and you have direct access to Olympic’s factory support team. Buying from an unauthorized seller or the used market can void your warranty entirely.

Damaged or Incorrect Shipments

Manufacturer's Recommended First Test Firing

We understand that manufacturers recommend performing an initial test firing before regular kiln use.

Completing the manufacturer's recommended first firing will not automatically affect your return eligibility, provided:

How Kiln Shipping Works

Why We Don’t Offer “Free Shipping”

Freight shipping a kiln is never truly free.

A large kiln can cost hundreds of dollars to ship depending on its size and destination. When a retailer advertises free freight, that shipping expense generally has to be recovered somewhere else, often through a higher product price.

We prefer a more transparent approach.

At Peach State Pottery:

The kiln is priced based on the kiln itself.
Shipping is priced based on the actual type of shipment required.
Customers closer to the shipping origin are not forced to subsidize customers thousands of miles away.

Because shipping a small tabletop kiln a few hundred miles is very different from shipping a large production kiln across the country, freight pricing can vary from product to product and destination to destination.

What to Expect

Someone should be available to receive and inspect the shipment.
Standard freight delivery is curbside.
Liftgate service is included when required on eligible kiln shipments.
The driver is not responsible for moving the kiln into your home, garage, studio, or business.
The driver is not responsible for installation, assembly, or uncrating unless those services were specifically arranged.

Inspecting Your Kiln for Freight Damage

Freight damage is uncommon, but it is extremely important to inspect your shipment before signing the delivery receipt.

Before Signing for Delivery

Please:

Inspect the packaging and pallet carefully.
Look for crushed areas, punctures, dents, broken boards, or other visible damage.
Take photos of the shipment before removing packaging.
Note any visible damage on the delivery receipt.

If the shipment has significant visible damage, you may refuse delivery.

Write:

“Refused due to freight damage.”

on the delivery receipt.

Signing for a visibly damaged shipment without documenting the damage may make a freight claim more difficult.

Concealed Damage

Occasionally, damage may not be visible until the kiln is unpacked.

If you discover concealed damage, contact us as soon as possible.

Please keep all packaging materials and provide photos of:

The damaged area
The packaging
The pallet or crate
The delivery receipt

Do not discard the packaging until the issue has been resolved.

Missed Deliveries, Storage & Redelivery

Once a delivery appointment has been scheduled, someone should be available to receive the shipment.

If the carrier is unable to complete delivery because the customer is unavailable or the delivery location is inaccessible, the carrier may assess:

Redelivery fees
Storage fees
Address correction fees
Reconsignment fees

Carrier fees resulting from missed appointments, incorrect addresses, or customer-requested delivery changes are the responsibility of the customer.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit.
