Digital Pyrometer & Electronic ControllerRecommended
The 2831G ships ready for manually monitored firing, which many raku and atmospheric-firing potters prefer for the hands-on control it gives over the reduction atmosphere. Adding the digital pyrometer and electronic controller gives you a precise, continuous temperature readout and alarm notifications, useful for potters who also want to dial in more repeatable glaze results between firings.
  • Digital pyrometer with continuous temperature readout
  • Cone-equivalent temperature tracking throughout the firing
  • High-temperature alarm notifications
  • Firing log/history for repeating successful glaze and atmosphere results
  • Compatible with raku, salt/soda, and standard reduction firing styles
  • Does not interfere with manual burner and damper control when desired
Common questions
Is the 2831G suitable for raku firing?
Yes — it's part of Olympic's Torchbearer/updraft raku line, and its venturi burner system and firebrick chamber are well suited to the fast heat-up and manual control raku firing benefits from, in addition to standard Cone 10 reduction firings.
Does this kiln require electricity to operate?
No — the 2831G's venturi burners draw combustion air naturally without an electric blower, so it can run on gas alone. Optional accessories like the digital pyrometer and electronic controller do require a standard 120V outlet if you choose to add them.
How much propane does a typical firing use?
Olympic estimates roughly 15 gallons of propane per firing for the 2831G, though actual usage varies with firing length, outdoor temperature, and target cone.
What clearance and ventilation does this kiln need?
As with any gas kiln, plan for significant clearance from combustible materials and adequate outdoor or well-ventilated space — check local fire code requirements before installation, and consider our optional vent hood accessory.
How do I register my warranty?
Register your kiln at the Olympic Kilns website within 30 days of delivery. You'll need your serial number (located on the control panel label), purchase date, and proof of purchase from an authorized dealer. Peach State Pottery can assist with registration if needed.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Olympic Kilns manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Olympic Kilns dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
