Emergency Parts Kit Assortment of critical replacement parts including thermocouple, relay, and heating element sections to minimize downtime during production schedules
Heavy-Duty Work Table Steel work surface with heat-resistant top for staging blades before and after heat treating, provides stable platform adjacent to oven
Controller upgrade
Genesis Touchscreen — Bartlett InstrumentsRecommended
Upgrade to the Genesis touchscreen controller for advanced heat treating programs with precise control over critical transformation temperatures. Features expanded program memory for storing custom hardening and tempering cycles specific to different steel alloys, with intuitive touchscreen interface that simplifies complex multi-step heat treating protocols.
  • Stores up to 100 custom programs for different steel types (1095, 52100, CPM-S30V, 440C, O1, etc.) with specific austenitizing and tempering temperatures
  • Large color touchscreen displays real-time temperature, ramp rates, and soak times with graphical visualization of your heat treating curve
  • Advanced ramping control lets you program precise heating rates critical for preventing warping and stress cracking in thin blade geometries
  • Multi-step programs automate complete hardening and tempering cycles including preheat, austenitizing soak, and multiple tempering cycles
  • Data logging records every firing with temperature profiles, useful for documenting heat treating parameters for quality control and repeatability
  • Delay start function allows you to load blades and schedule heat treating to begin at a specific time, maximizing workshop efficiency
Common questions
What types of steel can I heat treat in the KM14?
The KM14 reaches 2350°F, which covers virtually all knife-making steels including high-carbon steels (1095, 1084, 15N20, 52100), tool steels (O1, A2, D2), and many stainless alloys (440C, AEB-L, 154CM). This temperature range handles the austenitizing requirements for proper hardening. Most carbon steels harden between 1450-1550°F, tool steels between 1450-1850°F, and stainless steels between 1850-2050°F. The programmable controller lets you dial in the exact temperature for your specific steel alloy and hold the soak time needed for complete transformation.
Do I need the gas inlet port for atmosphere control?
The gas inlet port is optional but highly recommended for bladesmiths working with stainless steels or seeking bright finishes. Without atmosphere control, blades will form scale (oxidation) during heat treating which must be removed by grinding. Introducing an inert atmosphere like argon or nitrogen prevents oxidation and decarburization, resulting in cleaner blades with minimal surface cleanup. This is especially important for stainless steels like 440C or AEB-L which form heavy chromium oxide scale in air. Carbon steel makers often skip atmosphere control since they're grinding bevels post-heat-treat anyway, but it's essential for stainless or for makers wanting minimal stock removal.
What controller comes standard and can I upgrade it later?
The KM14 includes the Sentinel Touch Xpress touchscreen controller as standard equipment, with ramp/hold programming that covers most heat treating cycles. You can program multi-step processes including preheat ramps, austenitizing soaks, and tempering cycles. The Genesis touchscreen is available as an upgrade either at time of purchase or retrofitted later—it adds expanded program storage, data logging, and graphical temperature curve display. Many knife makers start with the standard controller and upgrade once they're running production volumes and want to store dedicated programs for each steel type they use regularly.
How does the KM14 compare to other Paragon knife ovens?
The KM14's 14-inch chamber depth accommodates blades up to 13 inches long, making it ideal for chef's knives, bowies, and large fixed blades. Paragon offers smaller models for shorter blades (folders, small EDC knives) and larger models for swords or production batching. The KM14 hits the sweet spot for custom knife makers working on full-size kitchen and hunting knives—it's large enough to heat treat multiple blades simultaneously or handle long chef's knives, but compact enough for a home workshop. The dual voltage option (120V/240V) also makes it accessible for shops without dedicated 240V circuits, though 240V provides faster heating if you have it available.
Why buy from an authorized Paragon dealer?
Paragon's one-year warranty is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery, and you must register the oven within 30 days of delivery. Authorized dealers provide proper pre-delivery inspection, accurate electrical specifications for your installation, and technical support for heat treating questions specific to knife making. We help you determine the correct voltage configuration for your workshop, advise on atmosphere control options, and provide guidance on heat treating protocols for different steel alloys. Purchasing from unauthorized sources or used equipment voids the warranty and leaves you without factory support for an oven that's critical to your bladesmithing work.
Not sure if the KM14 is the right heat treating oven for your knife making operation? Our team can help you choose the right chamber size and voltage configuration for your blade lengths and workshop electrical service.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Paragon manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Paragon dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
