Common questions
What is vitrigraph, and what can I create with this kiln?
Vitrigraph is a technique where glass is heated until molten, then pulled through a hole to create flowing streams, rods, or ribbons. The HS-7GV's 1.625-inch drop-hole allows you to load glass pieces in the chamber, heat them to melting point (typically 1500–1700°F depending on glass type), and draw controlled strings of molten glass from the bottom opening. Artists use vitrigraph glass for jewelry components, decorative stringers, sculptural elements, and mixed media work.
Can I use this kiln for fusing or slumping when I'm not doing vitrigraph work?
Yes, when the drop-hole is plugged with a ceramic fiber plug (recommended optional accessory), the HS-7GV functions as a small fusing or annealing kiln. The 7″ × 7″ × 7″ chamber is suitable for small test tiles, jewelry-scale fusing, or pendant work. The 1850°F maximum temperature is adequate for most fusing schedules with COE 90 and COE 96 glass, though the chamber size limits project scale.
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?
No. The HS-7GV operates on standard 120V household power and plugs directly into a standard wall outlet. It draws 15 amps, so use a standard 15-amp outlet that isn’t shared with other high-draw appliances while firing, but no hardwiring or electrical service upgrade is required. This makes it ideal for home studios, classrooms, or spaces without 240V access.
What types of glass work best for vitrigraph in this kiln?
Compatible glass includes COE 96 (Bullseye, Spectrum), COE 90 (Oceanside, Wissmach), and soft borosilicate varieties. Hard borosilicate requires higher temperatures than the HS-7GV's 1850°F maximum and is not recommended. Stack compatible glass colors in the chamber to create multi-colored pulls, or use single colors for uniform stringers. Glass viscosity at temperature will affect pull speed and strand diameter.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the HotShot Oven & Kiln manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized HotShot Oven & Kiln dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
