Jen-Ken · Controllers · Orton AutoFire Orton AutoFire® Slide Remote Controller Orton AutoFire® Slide · Touchscreen · External plug-in controller The touchscreen end of the Orton AutoFire range. An external controller that turns a manual kiln into a programmed one — the kiln plugs into the controller, the controller plugs into the wall, and from then on the controller runs the firing. The Slide carries the same advanced capability as the AutoFire® 4000 behind a touchscreen instead of a button pad: a variable PID controller with extensive programming, single- or multi-zone operation, and Type K, N, S and R thermocouple inputs for operation up to 3308°F.

Common questions
Will this work with my kiln? Two rules from Jen-Ken. It works only with manual kilns that you adjust by hand — it is not compatible with kilns already fitted with an auto turn-up device. And the controller has to be rated above your kiln's amperage draw. Tell us your kiln's make, model and amperage and we will confirm it before you buy.
Which voltage and amperage will I get?Jen-Ken's copy describes this controller in 240V/30A and 240V/50A builds, but does not offer them here as separate choices you can pick at checkout. Because the amperage rule above is the thing people get wrong, get in touch and we will confirm the exact configuration against your kiln rather than let you guess.
How is this different from the 12-button AutoFire?Capability is close — the Slide is described as offering the advanced features of the AutoFire® 4000 with a touchscreen in place of the 12-button pad. If you program complex multi-segment schedules often, the touchscreen is easier to live with. If you fire the same few programs, the button version does the same job for less.
What does multi-zone actually get me?In a tall kiln the top and bottom drift apart. A multi-zone setup reads and drives sections independently so the whole load sees closer to the same curve. On a small kiln it matters much less. Ask us whether your kiln is wired for it.
Who handles the warranty?Orton does — two years, direct from the manufacturer. Jen-Ken does not warrant controllers. We will help you open the claim.
Check the amperage before you order The single most common mistake with an external controller is fitting one rated below the kiln. Tell us your kiln's make, model and amp draw and we will confirm the right controller — it takes a minute and saves a return.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
