2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Ceramic Kiln · JK² Series Jen-Ken JK² 22" Ceramic Kiln Model JK² 22" · 240V · 27" x 27" x 22" chamber · Cone 04-06 The JK² 22 is the shallower of Jen-Ken's two square kilns: 27 inches each way and 22 deep, for nine cubic feet of flat-walled chamber. Square is the reason to buy it. Yard ornaments, tiles, boxes, large slip-cast work and anything with corners uses the space far better than it would in a round barrel, and at 22 inches deep you can reach the bottom shelf without climbing in. Jen-Ken builds it for low-fire ceramics — cone 04-06 — rather than high-fire stoneware production.

Key features
Orton AutoFire AF3C 3-button controllerProgrammable ramp-and-hold firing rather than a manual kiln sitter, fitted as standard.
Square chamberFlat walls and corners. For square or irregular work the usable volume is much higher than the cubic-foot figure suggests.
Shallow loading depthAt 22 inches you can set the bottom shelf without leaning into the kiln — a real difference over the 29" JK² for daily loading.
Instruction manualJen-Ken's printed manual, including firing schedules and their electrical requirements.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Built to order in FloridaAssembled in Jen-Ken's own Lakeland shop rather than drop-shipped from a distributor.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves and postsJen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber. We stock them alongside the kiln.
Kiln washShelf primer keeps glaze off your shelves. Worth adding to a first order.
Furniture kitA matched set of shelves and posts for this chamber, cheaper than buying the pieces individually.
208V or three-phase buildJen-Ken can build most ceramic models for 208V, and some for three phase, to order. Contact us for a quote — there is no published spec for those builds.
Common questions
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, 45A draw, 10,800W, on a NEMA 6-50R receptacle with a 50A breaker and #6 copper circuit wire. Please read the next question before you give any figure to your electrician — Jen-Ken's own product page prints a different breaker and wire size, and it is wrong. Jen-Ken also notes that runs over 30 feet from the breaker may need the next heavier gauge.
Jen-Ken's page says 40A breaker and #8 wire. Why do you say 50A and #6?Because 40A and #8 describe a circuit that cannot be built. A 45-amp continuous load cannot sit on a 40-amp breaker, and a NEMA 6-50R is a 50-amp device that cannot legally be fed by a 40-amp circuit with #8 wire. Jen-Ken's own wiring table for this model gives it #6 copper and a 50-amp fuse, and every one of its 42-to-48-amp siblings gets the same. Their own wattage figure — 10,800W at 240V — forces the 45-amp draw. So we publish 45A, 6-50R, 50A breaker, #6 copper, and we are not reprinting the page figures. Your electrician should size to these and confirm against local code.
What is the maximum temperature?2,100°F. Jen-Ken’s September 2025 dealer price list rates the JK² 22 to 2,100°F — lower than the 2,300°F of the round ceramic kilns alongside it, which is a function of the square chamber rather than a misprint. Cone 04-06 is the working range Jen-Ken designs and recommends it for, and that sits comfortably under the ceiling. Treat it as a low-fire kiln: it is not built for stoneware production and it is nothing like a cone 10 kiln.
What can it actually fire?Low-fire ceramics — bisque, earthenware, low-fire glaze, ceramic production work, greenware and slip-cast pieces. That is what Jen-Ken designed it for. If you fire mid-range stoneware on a schedule, a 2822 3" or 2829 3" is the better kiln.
How is it different from the JK² 29?Depth. Same 27" x 27" footprint, 22 inches deep instead of 29, so nine cubic feet instead of 11.4. It is easier to load and cheaper, and it draws 45A where the 29 offers 45A or 55A.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
What actually comes in the crate?Jen-Ken does not publish a crate contents list for every model, so we do not want to guess. Call or email us and we will confirm exactly what ships with this kiln — stand, lid lifters, furniture — before you order.
Can I get it in 208V or three phase?Standard build is 240V single phase, and that is the only configuration Jen-Ken publishes a specification for. Jen-Ken will build most ceramic models for 208V, and some for three phase, to order. There is no published amperage, breaker or wire figure for a three-phase build, so contact us for a quote and we will get the numbers from the factory.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Read the electrical note before you wire anything. We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Jen-Ken's own page prints a breaker and wire size for this kiln that will not pass inspection — call us and we will go through the correct circuit with you before your electrician starts.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
