2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · AFG Series Jen-Ken 18-E 11" Glass Kiln Model AFG 18-E · 240V · 18" x 11" chamber · 1,700°F The 18-E has been in Jen-Ken's catalogue since the 1970s and it is still the kiln most warm-glass people start a real studio with. The chamber is 18 inches across and 11 inches deep — a 15-inch round shelf, or flat work up to 10.5 inches square, which covers most plates, panels and tile runs. Elements sit in the top and the sides rather than one plane, so a wide shelf fuses evenly instead of ringing hot at the edge. At 110 lbs on a 240V 20-amp circuit it is the smallest of the E-series and the cheapest way into a proper 240V glass kiln. If you slump into deep moulds or want to stack a second shelf, the 18-E 15" is the same footprint with four more inches of headroom.

Key features
Orton AutoFire AF3P 3-button controllerJen-Ken fits the AF3P as standard — programmable ramp-and-hold firing with blank user programs, not a manual switch.
Kiln standJen-Ken lists the stand with this kiln. It lifts the chamber off the floor for airflow and brings it to a workable loading height.
Kiln washA starter supply of shelf primer is on Jen-Ken's included list, which matters because glass welds itself to an unprimed shelf.
Top and side elementsElements above and around the work rather than in one plane only, which is what gives a wide shelf an even fuse.
Instruction manualJen-Ken's printed manual, including firing guidance and their electrical requirements.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire AF3P 3-button as standard and offers the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen and the SDS TAP II in its place. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, a 20-amp draw and 4,800 watts — the arithmetic checks out, since 240V × 20A is exactly 4,800W — on a NEMA 6-30R receptacle behind a 25-amp breaker with #10 copper. That set is internally consistent: 20 amps continuous needs 25 amps of breaker at the 125% rule, #10 copper is good for 30 amps, and a 6-30R is a 30-amp device, so nothing in the chain is undersized. It is the cleanest electrical spec in Jen-Ken's glass line. It still wants a dedicated run — have a licensed electrician confirm it against local code before delivery.
How big a piece will it take?Jen-Ken's own figures are a 15-inch round shelf or work up to 10.5 inches square. The chamber is 11 inches deep, so flat fusing and shallow slumps are comfortable and tall moulds are not. Tell us what you are making and we will check it against the shelf before you order.
How is this different from the 18-E 15"?Height, and only height. This one is 18" x 11" at 1.61 cubic feet; the 15" is 18" x 15" at 2.3. Same 18-inch shelf, same 1,700°F, same top-and-side elements. Buy this one if your work is flat and you want to spend less; buy the 15" if you slump into moulds or want the headroom to stack.
Will it fire clay? No. 1,700°F is a glass ceiling, not a ceramic one — it will not reach even low-fire bisque. If you want one kiln for both, look at the Glass/Casting builds or the Ceram-a-Glass line, which are rated to 2,150°F and higher and which Jen-Ken lists for clay.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Not sure whether to take the 11" or the 15"? We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Tell us what you are making and what power you have available, and we will tell you straight whether this is the right kiln — including when a cheaper one would do.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
