Cress · Parts · ThermocouplesType K thermocouples for Cress kilns, each supplied with its mounting block, plus the lead wire that runs from the thermocouple back to the controller. The thermocouple is the sensor that tells the controller how hot the chamber is — when one drifts or fails, the kiln under-fires or over-fires without anything looking wrong.

Probe length is what you are choosing: the probe has to reach into the chamber the same distance the old one did. Measure the probe you are replacing, from the mounting block to the tip, rather than ordering by kiln size.

Common questions
How do I know the thermocouple is the problem?The classic sign is a kiln that reads right but fires wrong — cones bending a cone or two away from the setpoint, repeatably. Thermocouples drift as they age rather than failing outright. If it reads wildly wrong or not at all, suspect the lead wire or a connection first.
Which probe length do I need?The one you are taking out. Measure from the mounting block to the tip. A probe that is too short sits in the wall rather than the chamber and will read low.
Can I use a Type K from another brand?Type K is a standard, but the block, the sheath diameter and the mounting are not. These are the Cress parts and they fit Cress kilns without modification.
How do I know this is the right part for my kiln?Send us the model and serial number off the kiln's data plate, at sales@peachstatepottery.com or (470) 264-3563. Cress built kilns for decades and their part lists use a shorthand that does not always map cleanly onto a model name, so we check it by hand rather than letting you guess.
Are these genuine Cress parts?Yes. We are an authorized Cress dealer and everything here is ordered from Cress in Carson City, Nevada, against their current parts list.
What if Cress no longer makes the part I need?Tell us the part anyway. Cress is still manufacturing, and where a part has been superseded they usually have a current equivalent — we would rather find it for you than let you buy the wrong thing.
