Cress · Parts · Kiln SitterReplacement parts for the Dawson-style Kiln Sitter fitted to Cress kilns. The Sitter is the mechanical shut-off: a pyrometric cone rests on two supports, the sensing rod sits on the cone, and when the cone softens and bends the rod drops and trips the switch. The timer beside it is the backup that ends the firing even if the cone never drops.

The tube assembly comes in four lengths and they are not interchangeable — measure the tube you are replacing, or tell us the wall thickness of your kiln. The sensing rod is made to length, so tell us the length of your existing rod in the order notes.
What’s included
One part per unitThe part you select, supplied individually.
Two things we need from youThe tube assembly needs the right length, and the sensing rod is made to length. Tell us the measurement in the order notes and we will match it.
Nothing elseThese are individual replacement parts, not a complete Kiln Sitter. Tell us what has failed and we will tell you what the repair actually needs.
Fit confirmed before shippingSend us the model and serial number and we will confirm the part against your kiln first.

Common questions
My kiln overfires. Is it the Sitter or the timer? If the cone bends and the kiln keeps firing, suspect the switch block, the claw or a bent sensing rod. If the kiln shuts off early, suspect the cone supports or the rod sitting wrong. If nothing stops it at all, the timer motor is the next thing to check. Tell us the symptom and we will help you narrow it down before you buy a part.
Which tube length do I need?Measure the tube you are taking out, from the inside face of the brick to the mounting plate. If your kiln has 2-1/2" walls, you want the long tube. When in doubt send us the model.
Does a cone come with any of this? No. Pyrometric cones are a consumable and are not part of these assemblies.
How do I know this is the right part for my kiln?Send us the model and serial number off the kiln's data plate, at sales@peachstatepottery.com or (470) 264-3563. Cress built kilns for decades and their part lists use a shorthand that does not always map cleanly onto a model name, so we check it by hand rather than letting you guess.
Are these genuine Cress parts?Yes. We are an authorized Cress dealer and everything here is ordered from Cress in Carson City, Nevada, against their current parts list.
What if Cress no longer makes the part I need?Tell us the part anyway. Cress is still manufacturing, and where a part has been superseded they usually have a current equivalent — we would rather find it for you than let you buy the wrong thing.
Send us your model and serial numberCress part lists use a shorthand that does not always map onto a model name, and several parts are built per kiln. Read the model and serial off the data plate, send it over, and we will confirm the right part before you pay.
