Cress · Parts · Repair compoundsThe two repair compounds Cress supplies for their kilns, both in quart tubs. Kiln cement sets brick and fills cracks in the wall. Lid coat is brushed onto the underside of the lid to stop brick dust shedding down onto your ware — the usual cure for mysterious specks fused into a glaze surface.

These are different products and not interchangeable. Cement is a structural filler for the wall; lid coat is a surface coating for the lid. Using cement on a lid underside adds weight and will crack off.

Common questions
I keep getting specks fused into my glaze. Which do I need?Lid coat. Specks landing on horizontal surfaces of ware are usually brick dust shedding off the lid underside as the brick ages. Coating the lid is the standard fix.
Can I use kiln cement to glue a cracked shelf? No. Kiln cement is for brick and wall repair, not for load-bearing shelves. A cracked shelf is a shelf to replace — it will fail under load, usually with ware on it.
How do I know this is the right part for my kiln?Send us the model and serial number off the kiln's data plate, at sales@peachstatepottery.com or (470) 264-3563. Cress built kilns for decades and their part lists use a shorthand that does not always map cleanly onto a model name, so we check it by hand rather than letting you guess.
Are these genuine Cress parts?Yes. We are an authorized Cress dealer and everything here is ordered from Cress in Carson City, Nevada, against their current parts list.
What if Cress no longer makes the part I need?Tell us the part anyway. Cress is still manufacturing, and where a part has been superseded they usually have a current equivalent — we would rather find it for you than let you buy the wrong thing.
Send us your model and serial numberCress part lists use a shorthand that does not always map onto a model name, and several parts are built per kiln. Read the model and serial off the data plate, send it over, and we will confirm the right part before you pay.
