2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · Oval Glass/Casting Jen-Ken Oval 18 Glass/Casting Kiln Model Oval 18 Glass/Casting · 240V · 39" x 24" x 18" chamber · 1,700°F glass / 2,150°F casting The Oval 18 is the biggest Glass/Casting kiln Jen-Ken builds in brick: a 39-inch by 24-inch oval chamber with eighteen inches of height, coils in both the top and the sides, and a 2,150°F casting ceiling. The oval shape is not decoration — it is what lets a 39-inch panel or a long platter sit on one shelf without a kiln the size of a car. Eighteen inches of height is enough for substantial casting moulds standing up. It draws 45 amps at 240V and weighs 350 lbs, so this is a sited installation with a freight delivery, not something you shuffle about.

Key features
39" x 24" oval chamberLong enough for panels and platters that will not sit on a square shelf, without the floor space a square kiln of the same length would need.
Top and side coilsCoils in both planes, which is what gives an oval this size an even fuse rather than hot ends.
Orton AutoFire 12-button controllerJen-Ken fits the 12-button AutoFire as standard on this model — 23 preset programs plus 10 of your own.
18 inches of heightRoom for a substantial casting mould standing up, not just flat work.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Crate contents — ask usJen-Ken does not publish a crate list for this model. We will confirm exactly what ships with it, including whether a shelf and stand are in the crate, before you order.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire 12-button as standard and offers the AutoFire Slide touchscreen and the SDS TAP II in its place. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
What does "Glass/Casting" actually mean? Two firing modes in one kiln. For fusing and slumping the elements fire from the top and the sides together, which washes a wide shelf in even heat — that is what flat glass wants, and the ceiling there is 1,700°F. For casting, the side elements do the work on their own and the kiln will go to 2,150°F, which is the range a casting mould and a long ramp need. You select the mode; it is one kiln with two ways of heating, not a compromise between them.
Why is there no breaker size in the spec table?Because Jen-Ken's two sources disagree and one of the figures cannot be built. Their product page lists a 60-amp breaker behind a NEMA 6-50R receptacle — a 6-50R is a 50-amp device and must not sit on a 60-amp circuit. The wiring table in Jen-Ken's own owner's manual lists the Oval 18 at 240V, 45 amps, #6 wire, a 50-amp fuse and a 6-50R, which is coherent but contradicts the page. The breaker size is one of the two figures you hand your electrician, so we will not print one we cannot stand behind. Call or email us before anything is wired and we will get the nameplate figure from the factory. Everything else — 240V, 45 amps, 10,800 watts, the 6-50R and #6 copper — appears in both sources and is published above.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, this one included, and we have not worked one out from the temperature. What is published is the two ceilings — 1,700°F in glass mode and 2,150°F in casting mode — and those are in the table above. Treat 2,150°F as low-fire clay and glaze territory.
Will it fire clay?Low-fire clay and glaze, yes — Jen-Ken lists low-fire ceramics among this kiln's functions and 2,150°F is in that range. What it will not do is mid-fire or high-fire stoneware: cone 6 is out of reach, let alone cone 10. If pottery is the main event, buy a ceramic kiln and keep this one for glass. If you fire glass most of the time and want the option of a low-fire load, this is exactly the kiln for it.
Why do you list 9.33 cubic feet when Jen-Ken says 14?Because 14 is the Oval 27's figure and it has been copied onto this page by mistake. A 39" x 24" x 18" box is 9.75 cubic feet before you take anything off for the oval shape, so 14 is not merely generous — it is larger than the chamber could be if it were square. Jen-Ken's own Ceram-a-Glass Oval, which has exactly the same 39" x 24" x 18" chamber and the same 450 lb shipping weight, is published at 9.33 cubic feet, and their Oval 13 and Oval 27 figures form a consistent series with it: 7.2, 9.33, 14. We have published 9.33 because it is Jen-Ken's own number for this chamber. The 14 would have you over-buy shelves and mis-plan your floor by half. We have raised it with the factory.
How much floor does it need?It crates at 450 lbs and arrives by motor freight with a lift gate, and the chamber alone is over three feet long. Talk to us about access, doorways and where it lands before you order — on a kiln this size, getting it into the room is usually the harder half of the job.
What actually comes in the crate?Jen-Ken does not publish a crate contents list for every model, so we do not want to guess. Call or email us and we will confirm exactly what ships with this kiln — stand, furniture, shelf — before you order.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Jen-Ken gives brick kilns two years. Keep your proof of purchase.
Talk to us before you book the electrician. We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Jen-Ken's page and Jen-Ken's own manual disagree on this kiln's breaker, and their published cubic-feet figure belongs to a different model. Call us and we will get the real numbers from the factory before anything is installed.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
