2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · AF3P Series Jen-Ken AF3P 11/4.5 Glass Kiln with 2" Flip Door Model AF3P 11/4.5 · 120V · 11" x 4.5" chamber · 1,700°F This is the 11/4.5 built with a 2-inch self-supported flip door in the front instead of a plain lid. The door stays where you put it, which means you can open a hot chamber one-handed and introduce a bead or a piece of work at temperature — the reason people buy a front-opening kiln for lampwork and annealing rather than a top-loader. Everything else matches the standard 11/4.5: 120V, 13 amps, an 11" x 4.5" chamber, a furniture kit, and 40 lbs of brick. The one genuine difference in the specification is the temperature ceiling, and it is there because of the door.

Key features
2" self-supported flip doorA front door that holds its own position, so a hot chamber can be opened one-handed. This is the feature you are paying for.
Orton AF3P 3-button controllerJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire AF3P as standard — programmable ramp-and-hold firing with blank user programs, not a manual switch.
Furniture kit with shelf and postsJen-Ken lists a furniture kit with this model, so you can fire it the day it arrives rather than waiting on a second order.
Plugs into a normal outlet120V on a NEMA 5-15R. No electrician, no service upgrade — though Jen-Ken asks for a dedicated circuit behind it.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Ships UPSAt 50 lbs crated this one goes by parcel rather than motor freight, which keeps the delivery cost down.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire AF3P 3-button as standard. Other AutoFire controllers are a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
Why is this rated 1,700°F when the plain 11/4.5 is rated 2,000°F?The 2" flip door lowers the rating, and Jen-Ken does it deliberately. A hinged door is a thermal weak point, so their current glass price list carries the flip-door builds as separate rows with lower ceilings — this one drops from 2,000°F to 1,700°F, and the 11/9 with a 4" door drops further still. The bigger the door, the deeper the de-rate. You will find at least one retailer showing 2,000°F on this model; that is an error, and it would have you fire 300 degrees past what the door is rated for. 1,700°F is plenty for fusing and slumping — if you need 2,000°F for casting, buy the plain 11/4.5 and give up the front door.
What electrical circuit does it need?120V single phase, a 13-amp draw and 1,560 watts on an ordinary NEMA 5-15R three-prong outlet — identical to the plain 11/4.5, and Jen-Ken's owner's manual confirms the two builds share one electrical specification. Their guidance on the breaker is "20A recommended; 15A may be acceptable — please call to confirm", with #12 circuit wire. Take the 20-amp advice, and give it a dedicated outlet.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
What is a flip door actually for?Getting work in and out of a hot chamber. A self-supported door stays open where you leave it, so you can hold a mandrel in one hand and still load. For lampworkers moving hot beads straight into an annealer, that is the whole job. If you only ever load a cold kiln and fire it, you do not need this build and the plain 11/4.5 gives you a higher ceiling for less money.
What actually comes in the crate?Jen-Ken does not publish a crate contents list for every model, so we do not want to guess. Call or email us and we will confirm exactly what ships with this kiln — stand, furniture, shelf — before you order.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Jen-Ken gives brick kilns two years. Keep your proof of purchase.
Front door or higher ceiling? We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. The flip door costs you 300°F of ceiling and buys you hot loading. Tell us how you work and we will tell you which of the two 11/4.5 builds you actually want.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
