2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Ceramic Kiln · AF3C Series Jen-Ken AF3C 1822 3" Ceramic Kiln Model AF3C 1822 3" · 240V · 18" x 22" chamber · Cone 6 / 2,300°F This is the 3-inch brick build of Jen-Ken's best-selling AF3C 1822. Same 3.24 cubic foot chamber, same cone 6 rating, same 26-amp draw on an ordinary 30-amp circuit — the difference is the wall. Thicker brick holds heat, so the kiln costs less to run per firing and cools more slowly and evenly, which matters if you fire weekly or you are chasing glaze results that depend on the cooling curve. It is the upgrade to buy if you already know the 1822 is the right size.

Key features
Orton AF3C 3-button controllerJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire AF3C as standard — programmable ramp-and-hold firing rather than a manual kiln sitter.
3-inch brick wallsThe one substantive difference from the standard 1822: thicker walls, better heat retention, slower cooling, lower cost per firing.
Same circuit as the standard 1822The 3-inch build draws the same 26 amps on the same NEMA 6-30R. If you already have the outlet, it fits.
Instruction manualJen-Ken's printed manual, including firing schedules and their electrical requirements.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Built to order in FloridaAssembled in Jen-Ken's own Lakeland shop rather than drop-shipped from a distributor.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves and postsJen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber. We stock them alongside the kiln.
Kiln washShelf primer keeps glaze off your shelves. Worth adding to a first order.
Furniture kitA matched set of shelves and posts for this chamber, cheaper than buying the pieces individually.
208V or three-phase buildJen-Ken can build most ceramic models for 208V, and some for three phase, to order. Contact us for a quote — there is no published spec for those builds.
Common questions
Why is the electrical spec identical to the standard 1822? Is that a mistake on your site?No — it is correct, and we checked it specifically because it looks like an error. The 3-inch brick changes the wall thickness, the insulation and the weight. It does not change the chamber size or the element load, so the circuit is the same: 240V, 26A, NEMA 6-30R, 30A breaker, #8 wire. Jen-Ken's current price list carries both kilns as separately priced models with the same electrical figures, and their printed wiring table agrees. If you already have a 6-30 outlet for an 1822, this kiln plugs into it.
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, 26A, 6,240W, on a NEMA 6-30R receptacle with a 30A breaker and #8 circuit wire. That is the same class of circuit as an electric dryer, though the kiln needs its own dedicated run. Have a licensed electrician confirm against your local code, and note Jen-Ken's advice that runs over 30 feet from the breaker may need the next heavier gauge.
So what am I paying extra for?Insulation. Thicker walls mean less heat lost through the brick, so lower power cost per firing and a slower, more even cool-down. Over a kiln's life, on a studio that fires weekly, that adds up. If you fire a few times a year it will not pay for itself.
Does it have Mega Coil elements? No. Jen-Ken's page for this model uses the phrase 'mega coils' loosely, but the actual Mega Coil 1822 3" is a different, dearer kiln that draws 30 amps on a NEMA 6-50R. This one draws 26 amps on a 6-30R. Do not wire for one expecting the other — if you want the Mega Coil build, ask us for it by name.
What can it fire?Cone 6 at 2,300°F — mid-fire stoneware, porcelain and most commercial glazes. It will not reach cone 10.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
What actually comes in the crate?Jen-Ken does not publish a crate contents list for every model, so we do not want to guess. Call or email us and we will confirm exactly what ships with this kiln — stand, lid lifters, furniture — before you order.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Standard brick or 3-inch? We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Tell us how often you fire and what you make, and we will tell you straight whether the thicker wall will pay for itself — or whether the standard AF3C 1822 is the better buy.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
