2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · AFG 28-E Series Jen-Ken 28-E 15" Glass Kiln Model AFG 28-E 15" 3" · 240V · 28" x 15" chamber · 1,700°F This is the largest round kiln Jen-Ken builds for glass: 28 inches across and 15 deep, 5.33 cubic feet, taking a 26-inch solid round shelf or squares up to 18" x 18". The walls and lid are 3-inch brick rather than the usual 2.5, which Jen-Ken rates at roughly 20% more insulation — that shows up as a steadier anneal soak and a lower power bill over a long schedule, which is what you want if the kiln is earning its keep. Fifteen inches of height takes deep slumping moulds standing up. It fires top and side together for an even fuse across a shelf that wide, ships with lid lifters and the 12-button controller, and runs on a 240V 45-amp circuit.

Key features
Orton AutoFire 12-button controllerThe 12-button AutoFire rather than the 3-button — preprogrammed schedules plus blank user programs, which is what a kiln this size is usually doing.
3-inch brick walls and lidJen-Ken's figure is around 20% more insulation than their standard wall. It holds a soak more steadily and costs less to run over a long glass schedule.
Lid liftersOn Jen-Ken's included list. A 28-inch 3-inch-brick lid is heavy; the lifters take most of that weight out of opening and closing it.
Kiln standIncluded by Jen-Ken. It lifts the chamber off the floor for airflow and brings it to a workable loading height.
Kiln washA starter supply of shelf primer is on Jen-Ken's included list — glass welds itself to an unprimed shelf.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire 12-button as standard and offers the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen and the SDS TAP II in its place. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, a 45-amp draw, 10,800 watts, a NEMA 6-50R receptacle, a 50-amp breaker and #6 copper. That combination matches the wiring table in Jen-Ken's own owner's manual, which gives every 45-amp kiln in their range #6 wire, a 50-amp fuse and a 6-50R, so it is a figure we are happy to print. One arithmetical note we would rather state than hide: a kiln is a continuous load and the 125% rule puts 45 amps at 56.25 amps of breaker, above the 50 Jen-Ken specifies. Jen-Ken pairs 45-amp models with a 50-amp fuse consistently across their whole line, and the #6 wire is good for 65 amps at 75°C, so the wire is not the constraint. It is a dedicated run — have a licensed electrician confirm it against local code before delivery, and mention the 30-foot rule from Jen-Ken's manual if the panel is a long way off.
How big a piece will it take?Jen-Ken's own figures are a 26-inch solid round shelf or work up to 18" x 18" square. The chamber is 15 inches deep, so deep slumping moulds and taller draping forms go in standing up, or you can stack a second shelf on posts.
How is this different from the 28-E 11"?Height, and the current. Both are 28 inches across with the same 26-inch shelf, the same 18" x 18" maximum piece and the same 3-inch brick. This one is 15 inches deep at 5.33 cubic feet and draws 45 amps; the 11-inch is 3.91 cubic feet and draws 36. Buy this one for deep slumps and stacking; buy the 11-inch if your work is flat and you would rather spend less.
Is the 3-inch brick worth it?On a kiln this size, usually yes. Jen-Ken's number is about 20% more insulation, and on glass that matters less for reaching temperature than for holding one — an anneal soak on a thick piece is a long, slow hold, and a better-insulated chamber does it with less element cycling. It also adds weight, which is part of why the crate is 350 lbs.
Will it fire clay? No. 1,700°F is a glass ceiling. If you want one large kiln for both glass and clay, look at the AFG 2815 3" Glass/Casting — same 28" x 15" chamber and the same 3-inch brick, but with a side-only firing mode and a 2,150°F ceiling for casting and low-fire clay.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
