2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · AFG 28-E Series Jen-Ken 28-E 11" Glass Kiln Model AFG 28-E · 240V · 28" x 11" chamber · 1,700°F Jen-Ken's second-largest round glass kiln, behind only the 28-E 15". It takes the same 26-inch solid round shelf and the same 18" x 18" maximum piece as its taller sibling, in an 11-inch chamber at 3.91 cubic feet — which is the right trade if your work is flat. Large bowl slumps, platters, long panels, a full shelf of tiles. The walls and lid are 3-inch brick, which Jen-Ken rates at about 20% more insulation than a standard wall, and that shows up as a steadier anneal hold rather than a faster climb. Elements fire top and side together so a 26-inch shelf fuses evenly out to the rim. Lid lifters and the 12-button controller are included, and it runs on a 240V 36-amp circuit — nine amps less than the 15-inch build, which can be the difference between calling an electrician and not.

Key features
Orton AutoFire 12-key controllerThe 12-key AutoFire rather than the 3-button — preprogrammed schedules plus blank user programs.
3-inch brick walls and lidJen-Ken's figure is around 20% more insulation than their standard wall. It holds a soak more steadily and costs less to run over a long glass schedule.
Lid liftersOn Jen-Ken's included list. A 28-inch 3-inch-brick lid is heavy; the lifters take most of that weight out of opening and closing it.
Kiln standIncluded by Jen-Ken. It lifts the chamber off the floor for airflow and brings it to a workable loading height.
Kiln washA starter supply of shelf primer is on Jen-Ken's included list — glass welds itself to an unprimed shelf.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire 12-key as standard and offers the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen and the SDS TAP II in its place. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
What electrical circuit does it need?240V single phase, a 36-amp draw, 8,640 watts, a NEMA 6-50R receptacle, a 50-amp breaker and #6 copper. That set is internally consistent and we are happy to print all of it: 240V × 36A is exactly 8,640W, a continuous 36-amp load wants 45 amps of breaker under the 125% rule and gets 50, #6 copper carries 65 amps at 75°C, and a 6-50R is a 50-amp device. Nothing in the chain is undersized. It is still a dedicated run — have a licensed electrician confirm it against local code before delivery, and note Jen-Ken's own caveat that more than about 30 feet from the panel may need the next heavier gauge.
How big a piece will it take?Jen-Ken's own figures are a 26-inch solid round shelf or work up to 18" x 18" square — the same as the taller 28-E. What you give up at 11 inches of height is deep moulds and stacking, not diameter.
How is this different from the 28-E 15"?Height and current. Same 28-inch chamber, same 26-inch shelf, same 18" x 18" maximum piece, same 3-inch brick, same 1,700°F. This one is 11 inches deep at 3.91 cubic feet on 36 amps; the 15-inch is 5.33 cubic feet on 45 amps. If your work is flat this is the better buy — you get the full diameter for less money on a smaller circuit. If you slump into deep moulds, pay for the 15-inch.
Is the 3-inch brick worth it?On a kiln this size, usually yes. Jen-Ken's number is about 20% more insulation, and on glass that matters less for reaching temperature than for holding one — an anneal soak on a thick piece is a long, slow hold, and a better-insulated chamber does it with less element cycling. It also adds weight, which is part of why the crate is 325 lbs.
Will it fire clay? No. 1,700°F is a glass ceiling, not a ceramic one. For clay as well as glass in a chamber this size, look at the Glass/Casting builds, which Jen-Ken rates to 2,150°F and lists for low-fire ceramics.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Flat work or deep moulds? We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Tell us what you are making and what power you have available, and we will tell you straight whether this is the right kiln — including when a cheaper one would do.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
