2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · AFG Oval Series Jen-Ken Oval 13 Glass Kiln Model AFG Oval 13 · 240V · 39" x 24" x 13" chamber · 1,700°F Jen-Ken's own nickname for the Oval 13 is the bathtub kiln, and 39 inches by 24 is exactly that shape. It is the biggest chamber in their glass line short of the ceramic ovals: 7.2 cubic feet, which takes two large pieces side by side, a classroom's worth of small work in one firing, or a small sink. Thirteen inches of height is enough for most slumping moulds without pushing the kiln into the price bracket above. It is brick, not fiber, so it holds an anneal soak steadily, and it fires top and side together so a shelf that long fuses evenly end to end. Lid lifters are included, which on a 39-inch brick lid is not a luxury. It runs on a 240V 45-amp circuit, and the breaker row is blank on purpose — Jen-Ken's published figure cannot be wired to their own receptacle, which we explain below.

Key features
Orton AutoFire 12-button controllerThe 12-button AutoFire rather than the 3-button — preprogrammed schedules plus blank user programs, which is what a kiln this size is usually doing.
Lid liftersOn Jen-Ken's included list, and the reason a 39-inch brick lid is usable at all. They take most of the weight out of opening and closing it.
Kiln standIncluded by Jen-Ken. It lifts the chamber off the floor for airflow and brings a long chamber to a workable loading height.
Top and side elementsElements above and around the work rather than in one plane, which is what keeps a 39-inch shelf from running cold at the ends.
Instruction manualJen-Ken's printed manual, including firing guidance and their electrical requirements.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Quartz viewing windowJen-Ken offers a viewing window on this model so you can watch a fuse without opening the lid. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
Why is there no breaker size in the spec table?Because the figure on Jen-Ken's page cannot be built as written. They list a 60-amp breaker behind a NEMA 6-50R receptacle — a 6-50R is a 50-amp device and must not sit on a 60-amp circuit. The wiring table in Jen-Ken's own owner's manual gives every 45-amp kiln in their range #6 wire, a 50-amp fuse and a 6-50R, which is coherent but contradicts the page for this model. The breaker size is one of the two figures you hand your electrician, so we will not print one we cannot stand behind. Call or email us before anything is wired and we will get the nameplate figure from the factory.
What is safe to rely on?240V single phase, a 45-amp draw and 10,800 watts — the arithmetic confirms it, since 240V × 45A is exactly 10,800W — on a NEMA 6-50R receptacle with #6 copper. Those are published above and they agree across Jen-Ken's sources. #6 copper carries 65 amps at 75°C, so the wire is sized for anything the breaker question resolves to. Jen-Ken's manual adds that a run of more than about 30 feet from the panel may need the next heavier gauge.
What will actually fit in it?Jen-Ken's own framing is two large pieces at once, or a small sink. The chamber is 39 inches long, 24 deep and 13 high, so a pair of platters side by side, a long panel, or a classroom set of small work in a single firing. Thirteen inches of height takes most slumping moulds standing up. Tell us the piece and we will check it against the chamber before you order.
Is 7.2 cubic feet right for a 39" x 24" x 13" chamber?Yes — we checked, because Jen-Ken's cubic-feet figures are wrong on one other oval. 39 x 24 x 13 inches is 7.04 cubic feet as a rectangle, and 7.2 is the figure Jen-Ken publishes for the Oval 13 on both their product page and their September 2025 glass price list. It is also consistent with the rest of their oval series. For the record, the Oval 18 Glass/Casting is the one where Jen-Ken's own 14 cubic feet is wrong — that figure belongs to the Oval 27 — and we publish the correct 9.33 on that listing.
Is it a good classroom kiln?It is one of the better ones in the line for that, for one specific reason: the chamber is long rather than tall, so a lot of small student pieces sit in a single layer on one shelf and all see much the same heat. Elements top and side help with that too. The thing to plan for is the 45-amp dedicated circuit and a 375-lb crate arriving by motor freight.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Talk to us before you book the electrician. We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Jen-Ken's own figures for this kiln's breaker do not add up, so we have left that one row blank rather than print something an electrician cannot build. Call us and we will get the nameplate figure from the factory before anything is installed.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
