2-year limited warranty on brick kilns, 1-year on fiber kilns — direct from Jen-Ken.
Jen-Ken · Glass Kiln · JK² Series Jen-Ken JK² 11" Glass Fusing Kiln Model AFG JK2 · 240V · 27" x 27" x 11" chamber · 1,700°F The JK² is the square one, and square is the whole point. Twenty-seven inches by twenty-seven means a set of four plates, or a run of tiles, uses the shelf instead of wasting the corners the way a round chamber does — 4.5 cubic feet of chamber that measures the same in both directions. Eleven inches of height suits flat fusing, shallow slumps and tile work; if you need to stand a sink or a deep draping mould up inside it, Jen-Ken builds the same kiln with a 15-inch chamber. It fires top and side together for an even fuse across a wide shelf, comes with lid lifters and a 12-button controller, and runs on a 240V 36-amp circuit. Note that we have left the breaker row blank: Jen-Ken's two sources give this model two different breaker sizes, and we explain that below rather than guess.

Key features
Orton AutoFire 12-button controllerThe 12-button AutoFire rather than the 3-button — preprogrammed schedules plus blank user programs, which is the controller you want once you are running more than one glass schedule.
Lid liftersOn Jen-Ken's included list. A 27-inch square brick lid is heavy; the lifters take most of that weight out of opening and closing it.
Kiln standIncluded by Jen-Ken. It lifts the chamber off the floor for airflow and brings it to a workable loading height.
Kiln washA starter supply of shelf primer is on Jen-Ken's included list — glass welds itself to an unprimed shelf.
Square chamber27" x 27" with no wasted corners. The reason to choose this over a round kiln of the same cubic feet.
2-year limited warrantyJen-Ken's brick-kiln warranty, direct from the factory to the original purchaser.
Optional accessories
Kiln shelves, posts and a furniture kitGlass wants a flat, primed shelf and fibre paper; casting wants posts and headroom. Jen-Ken's own shelves and posts are sized to this chamber and we stock them alongside the kiln. Tell us your shelf size and we will match it.
Kiln wash and shelf primerGlass will weld itself to an unprimed shelf. Most glass workers go through primer steadily, so it is worth adding to a first order.
Slumping moulds and fibre paperMoulds and fibre paper are the other half of a warm-glass setup. Tell us the shelf size you are working to and we will point you at what fits.
Controller upgradeJen-Ken fits the Orton AutoFire 12-button as standard and offers the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen and the SDS TAP II in its place. It is a factory option rather than a checkout add-on — call us and we will quote it.
Common questions
Why is there no breaker size in the spec table?Because Jen-Ken's two sources disagree, and the one on the product page does not leave enough headroom. The page gives a 40-amp breaker; the wiring table in Jen-Ken's own owner's manual gives the glass JK² a 50-amp fuse on the same #8 wire and the same 6-50R receptacle. A kiln is a continuous load, so the 125% rule puts this 36-amp draw at 45 amps of breaker — above the page's 40 and comfortably under the manual's 50. We are not going to pick between two Jen-Ken numbers on a figure you hand to an electrician. Call or email us before anything is wired and we will get the nameplate figure from the factory for your build.
What is safe to rely on?240V single phase, a 36-amp draw and 8,640 watts — the arithmetic confirms it, since 240V × 36A is exactly 8,640W — on a NEMA 6-50R receptacle with #8 copper. All four of those appear in both Jen-Ken sources and are published above. Only the breaker is in dispute. Note Jen-Ken's own caveat from the manual as well: a run of more than about 30 feet from the panel may need the next heavier gauge.
How is this different from the JK² 15"?Height. Both are 27" x 27". This one is 11 inches deep at 4.5 cubic feet and draws 36 amps; the 15" is 15 inches deep at 6 cubic feet and draws 45 amps. Jen-Ken also sells the 15-inch chamber as a "Make it DEEP" upgrade on this model rather than only as a separate kiln — if that is the route you want, call us. Buy this one for flat fusing and tile work; buy the 15" if you are slumping sinks or standing deep moulds up inside.
And how is it different from the JK² Glass/Casting?Temperature and firing modes. This is the plain fusing and slumping build, rated 1,700°F with top and side elements. The Glass/Casting version adds a side-only firing mode and a 2,150°F ceiling, which is what casting moulds and low-fire clay need. If all you do is fuse and slump, you do not need to pay for the casting build.
Why square rather than round?Because most glass work is not round. A 27-inch round chamber and a 27-inch square chamber have very different usable shelf areas once you start laying out rectangular panels, square tiles or a set of four plates. The square chamber also takes square shelves, which are cheaper to replace and easier to cut fibre paper for.
What cone will it reach?Jen-Ken publishes no cone rating for any kiln in their glass line, and we have not invented one. What is published is the maximum temperature, which is in the table above. Cone numbers are a ceramics measure; for glass work the temperature and the firing schedule are what matter.
How long until it ships?Jen-Ken builds to order in Lakeland, Florida. Their own guidance is that kilns can take several weeks to months depending on the production queue. Call us and we will get you the current estimate before you commit.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, so the factory two-year warranty applies exactly as it would buying direct. Keep your proof of purchase.
Talk to us before you book the electrician. We are authorized Jen-Ken dealers based in Georgia. Jen-Ken's own figures for this kiln's breaker do not add up, so we have left that one row blank rather than print something an electrician cannot build. Call us and we will get the nameplate figure from the factory before anything is installed.

Common questions about this kiln

Still stuck? Call or text (470) 264-3563 and talk it through with a real person.

Is freight delivery included in the price?

No. Kiln prices do not include freight, and we do not quietly build it into the product price. Freight is charged at a flat rate based on your delivery address and is shown at checkout. Liftgate service is included when it is needed, and standard delivery is curbside. You can estimate your delivered cost with the ZIP code tool above the Add to Cart button.

Can I return this kiln if it is not right?

Return requests can be submitted within 30 days of delivery. The kiln needs to be in its original packaging, in new and resellable condition, and approved before it is sent back. A restocking fee may apply. Completing the manufacturer's recommended first test firing does not by itself make a kiln non-returnable, so you can confirm it works before you commit. Full terms are on our Returns page.

What electrical supply do I need for this kiln?

The Specifications tab on this page lists this model's voltage, amperage, required breaker size and NEMA plug configuration. Most 240V kilns need their own dedicated circuit fitted by a licensed electrician, while many 120V models run from a standard household outlet. If you are unsure what your space can support, call or text (470) 264-3563 before ordering.

Does this kiln come with a warranty?

Yes. This kiln carries the Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty. Coverage length, what is included and any registration deadline are listed in the Specifications tab on this page. We are an authorized Jen-Ken dealer, which is a condition of warranty coverage on most kiln brands.

What comes with the kiln, and what do I need to buy separately?

The What's Included tab on this page lists exactly what ships with this kiln. Most kilns need shelves, posts and kiln wash before your first firing, and these are not always included. A vent is recommended for indoor installations. Any add-ons available for this model are shown above the Add to Cart button.
