What you get in this price range

At this level you are buying capacity and durability. Chambers commonly run 5 to 12 cubic feet, brick is often thicker, and multi zone control becomes standard rather than an upgrade. Oval kilns, dual media kilns and larger front loaders all appear in this band.

Buy here if you fire regularly for sale, run classes, or need a kiln that several people will load every week. Schools and community studios usually land in this range, and so do potters who have outgrown a 3 cubic foot kiln and are tired of firing twice as often as they want to.

Confirm your electrical supply before ordering.Kilns this size draw serious current and some are available in single or three phase. Getting this wrong is expensive to fix after delivery, so check what your building actually has before you order.
Think about how the kiln will reach its final position.These arrive on a freight truck and delivery is curbside. Measure doorways, check for steps, and plan how you will move several hundred pounds into place.
Multi zone control is worth having at this size.A taller chamber is harder to fire evenly. Multi zone control adjusts top, middle and bottom independently and makes a real difference to consistency in a large kiln.

Questions about kilns in this range

Do you accept purchase orders from schools?

What size kiln does a classroom need?

It depends on class size and how often you fire. A class of 20 students producing one piece per week usually needs at least 7 cubic feet to avoid firing constantly. Two medium kilns are often better than one large one, because you can fire bisque and glaze at the same time.

What is a dual media kiln?

A dual media kiln has a lid element in addition to side elements, so it can fire ceramics conventionally and also fuse glass with even heat from above. If you work in both materials it saves buying two kilns. Models with DM in the name are dual media.

Single phase or three phase?

Most studios and homes have single phase power. Three phase is typically found in commercial and institutional buildings and can reduce the amperage required. Check what your building has before ordering, because the kiln is built to the configuration you select and cannot be swapped afterwards.

How is a kiln this size delivered?

By freight truck, curbside, with liftgate service where it is needed and a scheduled delivery appointment. The carrier calls you once the kiln reaches the local terminal. Inspect the pallet before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt.

Why do two kilns with the same cubic feet cost different amounts?

Brick thickness, element quality, controller, number of control zones, and whether the chamber is round, square or oval all affect price. A thicker brick kiln costs more and fires more efficiently over its life. The specifications on each product page show the differences.

How long will the elements last?

It depends on how hot and how often you fire. Firing to cone 10 regularly wears elements considerably faster than firing to cone 6. Elements are a consumable item and replacing them is routine maintenance, not a fault.
