The short answer
- Yes, we offer educational pricing — for K–12 schools, colleges and universities, community art centers, clay guilds, libraries, makerspaces, camps and non-profits.
- There is no published percentage, and that is deliberate. Pricing is quoted per program against the equipment and quantity you actually need.
- Purchase orders are welcome. We invoice your purchasing office directly and work to your approval process.
- You can get a written quote before funding is approved, so you have a real number to take to a committee.
- Quotes include freight to your address with liftgate, and we reply within one business day.

Why we don't publish a school discount percentage
Most suppliers put a number on it. Ten percent off for schools, fifteen for universities, a code you type at checkout. It reads well and it is easy to compare, which is exactly the problem.
A flat percentage has to be set for the average order. That means it is set low enough to survive the biggest order anyone might place. A department buying one test kiln and a department outfitting a studio with four kilns, a vent system and two terms of shelves get the same number, even though the second order costs us completely differently to supply.
Quoting per program lets us do the opposite. We look at what you are buying, how many, where it is going and when you need it, and we price that. On a single small kiln the difference may be modest. On a classroom build-out it is usually worth considerably more than a published code would have been — and it can include things a code cannot touch, like how the freight is consolidated.
It also means we are not pretending. A percentage advertised on a page is a marketing number. A quote with your institution's name on it, your delivery address and your freight cost is a document your purchasing office can actually use.
Who qualifies — probably more departments than you think
The obvious one is the ceramics studio. It is not the only one, and the others are the ones that most often assume they are not eligible.
K–12 schools
Public, private and charter schools, plus homeschool co-ops. Usually the art department, sometimes a CTE or makerspace program.
Colleges and universities
Ceramics and art departments, yes — but also engineering, materials science, geology, dentistry, jewelry and metals, and glass programs. A heat-treating oven for a metallurgy lab and a burnout oven for a dental or casting program qualify on exactly the same basis as a pottery kiln. If your department fires something, this applies to you.
Community programs
Art centers, clay guilds, libraries, makerspaces and non-profits that teach. A library makerspace buying its first small kiln is squarely in scope.
Camps, workshops and continuing education
Summer camps, adult education, and teaching studios that run classes.
If you are not sure which bucket you fall in, say so on the form. The question we actually care about is whether the equipment is being used to teach.
What a classroom setup actually costs
Before you can ask for money you need a number, and the number is almost never just the kiln. Here are three common classroom configurations at our current list prices, before any educational pricing is applied.
| Setup | Kiln | Furniture kit | Downdraft vent | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Olympic 1818HE 2.63 cu ft, cone 10 |
$2,381.82 | $367.01 | $785.00 | $3,533.83 |
|
Olympic 1823HE 3.29 cu ft, cone 10 |
$2,736.85 | $367.01 | $785.00 | $3,888.86 |
|
Olympic 2327HE 7.0 cu ft, cone 10 |
$4,110.89 | $561.75–$700.85 | $785.00 | $5,457.64–$5,596.74 |
Our prices as of October 2026. Furniture kit is the matching Olympic kit for that chamber; the 2327HE takes one of two kits depending on configuration, so it is shown as a range. Vent is the Orton VentMaster. Freight is additional and depends on your address. Educational pricing is applied to the quote, not to these list figures.
Two things that table makes obvious. The first is that the kiln is roughly two thirds of the real cost, and a budget request built on the kiln price alone will come up short. The second is that a smaller chamber does not save as much as people expect once the vent is in, because the vent costs the same either way.
If the program is smaller than any of these — a single test kiln, a jewelry or glass bench setup — a 120V kiln that plugs into a standard outlet changes the arithmetic completely, because it removes the electrician from the project. That is covered properly in Best Kilns for Schools & Classrooms.
What the quote actually contains
A quote from us is a written document, usually back within one business day, and it includes:
- Every line item with model numbers, so your purchasing office can match it to a PO
- Freight to your delivery address, with liftgate where the delivery needs it — not "shipping TBD"
- Lead time for each item, so you can work backwards from a term date
- A quote number to reference on your purchase order
The freight line matters more than it sounds. Kilns ship by LTL freight and the cost varies by weight and destination, so a quote that leaves it out is not really a quote. Ours does not. If you want to understand what delivery day looks like before you commit, we wrote the whole thing up.
How institutions actually pay
Three routes, and you do not have to decide up front.
Purchase order
The most common. Send your PO referencing the quote number and we invoice your purchasing or accounts payable office directly. We do not need payment before the PO is processed.
Card
Fine for smaller orders. Worth knowing that institutional card limits often sit below the cost of a kiln and freight combined, which catches people out at checkout.
Bank wire
Our wire transfer discount is a flat 3% off the subtotal including freight, with no minimum and no cap, because it saves us the card processing fee. For a five-figure studio build that is real money.
Being straight about stacking: our discount codes do not combine with each other. Educational pricing is quoted as a package rather than applied as a code, so the right question is not "can I stack these" but "which total is lowest". Ask on the request form and we will show you the best total available rather than making you work it out. The same honesty applies to the military and first responder discount — it is a code, so it does not combine with the wire discount either.
Sales tax and exemption certificates
Two separate things, often confused.
We do not collect sales tax on orders shipped outside Georgia. That is automatic and requires no paperwork from you. For a tax-exempt institution outside Georgia, there is simply nothing to exempt.
For orders delivered inside Georgia, send your exemption certificate with your request and we will apply it before we quote, so the number you take to your committee is the number you will actually pay.
Five things that delay school orders
Almost every institutional order that slips does so for one of these reasons, and all five are avoidable if you catch them before the PO is raised.
1. The electrical panel was never checked
Picking the kiln first and discovering the panel afterwards turns a kiln purchase into a kiln purchase plus an electrician, a conduit run and a facilities request that can outlast the budget year. Check the panel first. Our electrical requirements guide covers what to ask your facilities team.
2. Nobody budgeted for shelves
No kiln ships with shelves or posts. In a school a forgotten accessory means a second requisition and a second approval cycle, which is why we bundle Ready-to-Fire kits — kiln, furniture and the bits you need on one line. Here is what goes in them.
3. Venting was treated as optional
In a room full of students it is not. A downdraft vent pulls fumes out of the chamber before they reach the room, and in most institutional settings it is the difference between a kiln that gets approved and one that does not. The full case is here, and the vent systems are here.
4. Lead time collided with the term date
Some models ship quickly and some are built to order. If the kiln has to be firing by the start of a term, that constraint belongs in the conversation before you choose the model, not after. Quick-ship versus made-to-order explains what you trade.
5. Nobody told the loading dock
Freight carriers deliver to the curb unless someone arranges otherwise. On a campus that usually means coordinating a delivery window with facilities, and checking the kiln can physically reach the room. We will coordinate the window with your team, but we need to know who to call.
What to send us for a fast, accurate quote
You do not need all of this, but the more of it you include, the more useful the first reply is.
- Your institution and department — ceramics, art, engineering, CTE, makerspace
- What you are firing — pottery to cone 6 or 10, glass, metal clay, heat treating
- Roughly how many students per session, which drives chamber size more than anything else
- Your electrical situation, even roughly: what voltage and amperage is available in the room
- Delivery address and whether there is a dock
- Your timeline — term date, budget year end, or "exploring for next year"
- Tax exemption or PO requirements, if you have them
If you only know half of it, send half. Working out the rest is the part we are useful for, and not knowing your amperage yet is not a reason to delay asking.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the educational discount?
There is no fixed percentage. Pricing is set per program against the equipment and quantity you need, which is usually better than a published code on a classroom-sized order and lets us price the freight sensibly too. Send your list and we will show you the number.
Can we get a quote before our funding is approved?
Yes, and this is one of the most common reasons people contact us. We will prepare a written quote you can take to a committee, a department head or a board. There is no obligation and no expiry pressure.
Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes. Send your PO with the quote number and we invoice your purchasing or accounts payable office directly.
Does this apply to departments other than art?
Yes. Engineering, materials science, dentistry, jewelry and metals, glass and CTE programs all qualify. Heat treating ovens and burnout ovens are covered on the same basis as pottery kilns.
We are tax-exempt. How does that work?
If you are outside Georgia, we do not collect sales tax at all, so there is nothing to do. Inside Georgia, send your exemption certificate with your request and we will apply it before quoting.
Can you deliver to a school loading dock?
Yes. Freight includes liftgate service where it is needed, and we will coordinate the delivery window with your facilities team. Tell us on the form if access is tight.
Talk to someone who knows kilns
You are not going to get a call center. Tell us what you teach and what you are trying to do, and we will help you specify it properly before anyone raises a requisition — including the awkward parts, like telling you a cheaper kiln will not do what you need or that the room needs electrical work first.
Every order includes discounted flat-rate freight with liftgate where the delivery needs it, our price match guarantee, and no sales tax outside Georgia.
