Common questions
What electrical service does the FL53E require?
The FL53E requires 3-phase electrical service at either 240V or 208V. This is commercial/industrial power that most residential locations do not have. You will need a licensed electrician to verify your facility has 3-phase service and to hardwire the kiln to a dedicated circuit with appropriate breaker and wire gauge. Three-phase kilns are typically installed in studios, universities, production facilities, and commercial buildings with industrial electrical infrastructure.
Does this kiln come with shelves and furniture?
No. Kiln furniture is not included with the FL53E due to the wide variation in loading requirements for different work. At 53 cubic feet, furniture costs can be significant. We recommend consulting with our team to design a custom furniture package based on your typical firing load—whether that's production pottery, sculpture, or mixed work. We can provide shelves, posts, stilts, and shelf support systems sized for the 46″ × 46″ interior.
Can this kiln fire ceramics and glass?
The FL53E is designed specifically for ceramic work and fires to Cone 10. It is not recommended for glass fusing or slumping. Glass requires significantly lower firing temperatures (1200-1500°F), slower ramp rates, and different element configurations. For glass work, Olympic offers dedicated glass kilns with appropriate controllers and heating profiles.
How is the warranty activated?
Olympic Kilns provides a one-year limited warranty that must be registered within 30 days of delivery. Registration is completed online at Olympic's website with your serial number and proof of purchase. Warranty coverage is valid only when the kiln is purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery and installed according to Olympic's specifications. Extended warranty options may be available at time of purchase.
What is the typical firing cost for this kiln?
Firing costs depend on your local electricity rates, firing temperature, and program. A Cone 10 firing in the FL53E will use substantial power due to the 53 cubic foot capacity. At average commercial electricity rates of $0.12/kWh, expect higher per-firing costs than smaller kilns, but significantly lower cost per cubic foot when firing full loads. Many production studios find the FL53E economical when consistently firing near capacity. We can help you calculate estimated costs based on your usage patterns.
Not sure if the FL53E is the right kiln for your space? Our team can verify electrical requirements, recommend furniture packages, and discuss installation logistics for large-capacity kilns.

Warranty

Olympic Kilns Warranty

Olympic Kilns are warranted by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. for kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass, subject to the warranty periods, requirements, and exclusions listed below.

This warranty is provided by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. Peach State Pottery is here to help customers understand warranty coverage and assist with the process if warranty service is needed.

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.

  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Please retain all original packaging until the issue is resolved.

Manufacturer’s Recommended First Firing is allowed without affecting your return eligibility, as long as the kiln is returned in excellent, like-new condition with all original parts and packaging.

  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
