Common questions
What electrical service does the FL17E require?
The FL17E requires a dedicated 125-amp, 240V single-phase circuit (or 208V option) installed by a licensed electrician. At 96 amps draw and 23,040 watts, this kiln cannot run on standard household circuits. Your electrician will need to run appropriately sized wire (typically 2 AWG copper) from your main panel to the kiln location and install a NEMA configuration receptacle matching the kiln's power cord. We recommend consulting with your electrician before purchase to confirm your facility's electrical capacity can accommodate this kiln.
Does this kiln come with shelves and posts?
No, kiln furniture is sold separately. The FL17E requires shelves sized to fit the 28×28-inch interior, typically 26×26-inch high-alumina shelves to allow proper airflow. We recommend purchasing a furniture kit sized for this model that includes shelves, full and half-height posts, and shelf supports. The number of shelves depends on your typical firing needs—most studios start with 6-8 shelves and add more as production volume increases.
How do I register the warranty?
Olympic requires warranty registration within 30 days of delivery to activate your one-year limited warranty. You'll register directly with Olympic Kilns using the serial number found on your kiln's data plate. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship but does not cover consumable items like elements, thermocouples, or firebrick. Keep your purchase receipt from Peach State Pottery, as warranty service is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers.
Can this kiln fire glass or metal clay?
While the FL17E is designed and optimized for ceramic work to Cone 10, it can technically fire glass and metal clay at their lower required temperatures. However, the 3-inch brick construction results in slower cooling than glass-specific kilns, and the large chamber size makes it inefficient for small glass fusing loads. If you plan to fire primarily glass or do frequent mixed-media work, consider a dual-media lid upgrade or a kiln specifically designed for glass with faster heating and cooling cycles.
What is the expected element lifespan?
Element life in the FL17E depends on firing frequency, temperature, and kiln maintenance. Studios firing to Cone 10 regularly can expect 75-150 firings before element replacement becomes necessary, while lower-temperature firings (Cone 04-6) typically extend element life to 200+ firings. Proper kiln venting, avoiding over-firing, and keeping the chamber clean from glaze drips all maximize element longevity. We recommend keeping a set of replacement elements on hand for production studios to minimize downtime.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.

  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Warranty

Olympic Kilns Warranty

Olympic Kilns are warranted by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. for kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass, subject to the warranty periods, requirements, and exclusions listed below.

This warranty is provided by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. Peach State Pottery is here to help customers understand warranty coverage and assist with the process if warranty service is needed.

Warranty Periods

Warranty coverage depends on the kiln type and configuration.

Product / Component Warranty Period
Kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter and Safety Timer 1 year
Cone 10 kilns 1 year
All other Olympic kilns 2 years
Thermocouples Not covered
Kiln furniture Not covered

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.
  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.

  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.
