Common questions
What glass applications can I do in the 189 Slider?
The 189 Slider is designed for fusing, slumping, and annealing glass up to 1700°F. The 18×18-inch floor accommodates full sheets or large glass projects, while the 9-inch height provides clearance for slumping molds and multi-layer fusing. The sliding floor design makes it particularly well-suited for loading delicate glass arrangements without disturbing your setup.
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?
Yes. The 189 Slider requires a dedicated 240V, 30-amp circuit with a NEMA 6-30 receptacle and 10-gauge wiring. We strongly recommend hiring a licensed electrician to install the circuit according to local electrical codes. The kiln can also be wired for 208V in commercial settings where that voltage is available.
What kiln furniture do I need for glass firing?
You'll need kiln-washed shelves designed for glass work, fiber paper, and slumping molds depending on your projects. Standard ceramic kiln shelves work but must be properly prepared with kiln wash or fiber paper to prevent glass from sticking. We recommend purchasing a glass kiln furniture kit that includes shelves, posts, and fiber paper specifically sized for the 189 Slider.
How does the sliding floor mechanism work?
The clamshell lid lifts open while the floor slides forward on rails, extending 44 inches out from the kiln. This allows you to load and unload projects at waist height without reaching over hot elements. The sliding mechanism is smooth and stable, keeping your glass work level during loading and eliminating the awkward overhead positioning required with top-loading kilns.
What's covered under the Olympic warranty?
Olympic provides a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The kiln must be registered within 30 days of delivery, and the warranty is valid only when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Elements are considered consumable items and have limited coverage. Proper installation and maintenance are required to maintain warranty coverage.
Not sure if the Olympic 189 Slider is the right kiln for your glass studio? Our team can help you compare glass kilns, discuss electrical requirements, and recommend the best setup for your work.

  • Improper installation.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.
  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.
