Common questions
What types of steel can I heat treat in the KM24 Pro?
The KM24 Pro fires to 2350°F, making it suitable for hardening and tempering high-carbon steels (1095, 1084, 1075), stainless steels (440C, AEB-L, 154CM), and tool steels (D2, A2, O1). The extra-wide chamber lets you process larger batches of the same steel in one cycle.
Do I need a gas inlet for protective atmosphere?
A gas inlet port is optional but recommended for professional bladesmiths who want to prevent oxidation and decarburization during the hardening process. The port allows you to introduce argon, nitrogen, or other protective gases into the chamber. It's available as an optional accessory and can be installed at time of purchase or added later.
What controller comes standard with the KM24 Pro?
The KM24 Pro Double Barrel includes a Sentinel touchscreen controller with 3-zone control and programmable temperature ramps and holds. You can create multi-step heat treating profiles for precise control over hardening, soaking, and tempering cycles. For advanced features like Wi-Fi monitoring and expanded profile storage, the Genesis touchscreen is available as an upgrade.
How does the KM24 Pro compare to single-chamber knife ovens?
The Double Barrel has one chamber that is much wider than the standard KM24 Pro, so you can heat treat more blades per load. It is one chamber with one 3-zone controller, so everything in a load runs the same program while the three zones keep heating even. The ceramic fiber construction heats faster than brick ovens, reaching 500°F in minutes rather than an hour or more.
Do I need to purchase this through an authorized dealer for warranty coverage?
Yes. Paragon's one-year limited warranty is only valid on kilns purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. The warranty must be registered within 30 days of delivery. Unauthorized dealers, used equipment, and private-party sales are not covered under manufacturer warranty.
Not sure if the KM24 Pro is the right heat treating oven for your shop? Our team can help you compare standard and Double Barrel models, discuss electrical requirements, and recommend the right setup for your blade production volume.
