Common questions
What can I fire in the Paragon Caldera? The Caldera fires to Cone 10 (2350°F), making it suitable for metal clay jewelry (silver, bronze, copper), ceramics, porcelain, stoneware, earthenware, china painting, decals, enameling on metal, and glass fusing and slumping. Its 0.96 cubic foot chamber accommodates small production runs, test tiles, jewelry pieces, and art glass projects up to approximately 12" x 10" in footprint.
Can I plug the 120V version into a standard outlet, or do I need an electrician? The 120V version draws 15.4 amps and requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit with a NEMA 5-20 receptacle (standard household outlet with a T-shaped neutral blade). Most newer homes have these in kitchens and garages. The 240V version draws 7.7 amps on a dedicated 15-amp circuit and requires an electrician to install a NEMA 6-15 receptacle. Consult a licensed electrician to verify your electrical service meets National Electrical Code requirements.
What colors is the Caldera available in? The Paragon Caldera comes standard with a stainless steel exterior jacket. Paragon does not offer custom color options for the Caldera model due to its stackable design and portability focus. The durable stainless finish resists scratches and maintains a professional appearance through years of use and transport.
How portable is the stackable design? Can one person move it? The Caldera separates into two sections—top and bottom—that most adults can lift independently. The entire kiln weighs approximately 95 lbs, so each section weighs roughly 45-50 lbs. The compact footprint (14" x 12.75") allows both sections to fit in the backseat or trunk of most cars. The included steel stand disassembles for transport. This makes the Caldera ideal for traveling instructors, vacation homes, and artists who teach at multiple studios.
