Common questions
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?Yes, absolutely. The FL12ECAR requires a dedicated 48-amp circuit at 240V or 208V, and this level of power must be installed by a licensed electrician familiar with NEC codes. The kiln includes its own breaker box, but you'll need proper wire gauge and a dedicated breaker at your main panel. Plan for professional installation as part of your budget.
How much work can I fit in a 12 cubic foot kiln? With the standard furniture kit, you get 4 full shelves at 24" x 24" each, giving you roughly 16 square feet of shelf space across the 36" height. That's enough capacity for production runs of 80-120 mugs, 40-60 dinner plates, or multiple large sculptural pieces per firing, depending on your stacking method.
How does the car loading system work? The entire kiln chamber sits on a wheeled cart that rolls out toward you on steel rails bolted to your floor. You load your work while the car is extended, then roll the chamber back into the stationary outer shell and close the door. This design brings the back of the kiln within easy reach and eliminates the need to lean deep into a fixed chamber—a huge advantage when loading heavy sculpture or tall vessels.
Should I add a solid state relay? For a production kiln like the FL12ECAR, yes—the solid state relay is one of the best investments you can make. You'll get tighter temperature control for more consistent results, longer element life, lower power bills, and you'll never need to replace worn mechanical relay contacts. It pays for itself over the life of the kiln.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Olympic Kilns dealer. Your one-year warranty is fully valid and you have direct access to Olympic’s factory support team. Buying from an unauthorized seller or the used market can void your warranty entirely.
