Common questions
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?Yes. A kiln this size requires a dedicated 240V or 208V circuit with appropriate amperage (typically 48-50 amps) and must be hardwired by a licensed electrician according to local electrical codes. The included breaker box simplifies the connection, but professional installation is required for safety and warranty compliance.
How many shelves can I fit in the 17 cubic foot chamber? The optional furniture kit includes 4 layers of shelving with posts, which is a practical starting point for most work. The 38" interior height gives you flexibility to adjust shelf spacing for tall pieces or pack more shelves for production runs of smaller work.
How does the car loading system work? The kiln chamber sits on a rolling cart that moves along a 6-foot steel rail track. You simply roll the entire chamber out from the stationary shell, load your shelves at a comfortable working height without reaching or bending into a deep cavity, then roll it back in and close the door. It's especially valuable when loading heavy sculptural work or dense production loads.
Should I add a solid state relay? For a production kiln at this price point firing regularly, absolutely. The solid state relay provides tighter temperature control for consistent results, reduces wear on elements so they last longer, lowers your power consumption, and eliminates the mechanical relay components that eventually wear out and need replacement. It pays for itself over the life of the kiln.
Does buying from Peach State Pottery affect my warranty? No. We are an authorized Olympic Kilns dealer. Your one-year warranty is fully valid and you have direct access to Olympic’s factory support team. Buying from an unauthorized seller or the used market can void your warranty entirely.
