Common questions
Can I convert this kiln between natural gas and propane?
The DD9 is configured at the factory for either natural gas or propane – you must specify which fuel type you need when ordering. Converting between fuel types after purchase requires replacing burner orifices and adjusting gas pressure settings, which should only be performed by a qualified gas kiln technician. If you anticipate needing to switch fuel types, consult with Peach State Pottery before ordering.
What are the installation requirements for the DD9?
The DD9 requires a dedicated gas line sized appropriately for the kiln's BTU rating, proper gas pressure regulation, and a ventilation system that exhausts combustion gases safely to the exterior. The installation must comply with local building codes and gas appliance regulations. We strongly recommend hiring a licensed gas fitter and kiln installation specialist to ensure safe operation. The kiln also needs a stable, level, non-combustible floor surface with adequate clearance from walls and combustible materials.
Do I need to purchase kiln furniture separately?
Yes, kiln furniture is not included with the DD9 and must be purchased separately. For a 15 cubic foot chamber, you'll need multiple 30″ × 25″ shelves and an assortment of posts in various heights to create efficient stacking configurations. We recommend starting with at least 6-8 shelves and a full post set. Contact Peach State Pottery for a furniture kit recommendation based on your specific production needs.
What is the difference between downdraft and updraft gas kilns?
In a downdraft kiln like the DD9, heat enters at the top or mid-level, circulates downward through the ware, and exits through a flue at the bottom. This creates more even heat distribution from top to bottom compared to updraft kilns, where heat enters at the bottom and rises directly upward. Downdraft kilns typically produce more consistent results across all shelf levels, making them preferred for production work where uniformity is critical.
How is the Olympic kiln warranty activated?
Olympic Kilns provides a one-year limited warranty that must be registered within 30 days of delivery. The warranty is only valid when purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery. Register your kiln directly with Olympic Kilns after delivery using the serial number and purchase documentation. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage from improper installation, misuse, or normal wear components.
Not sure if the DD9 is the right kiln for your studio? Our team can help you evaluate gas line requirements, ventilation needs, and whether this capacity matches your production volume.

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.
