Common questions
What can I make in the Paragon SC2?
The SC2 is designed for glass fusing (up to 14" diameter), jewelry enameling, precious metal clay (PMC and Art Clay), small metal clay projects, glass bead annealing, and low-fire ceramic testing. The 1700°F maximum makes it ideal for glass work and metal clay but not suitable for ceramic bisque or glaze firing, which requires higher temperatures. The 4.5" chamber depth accommodates most jewelry and small glass fusing projects.
Can I plug this into a regular wall outlet?
Yes. The SC2 runs on standard 120V household power with a 15-amp dedicated circuit. You'll plug it into a standard outlet using the included NEMA 5-15 plug. Make sure the circuit is dedicated (no other appliances sharing the breaker) and uses 14 AWG wiring. Most homes already have appropriate outlets, though you may want an electrician to verify your circuit can handle continuous 15-amp load.
What's the difference between fusing and slumping, and can this kiln do both?
Fusing joins glass pieces together at high temperature (1400–1500°F), while slumping shapes glass over or into a mold at lower temperature (1200–1300°F). The SC2 handles both processes within its 1700°F range. The 14" diameter chamber accommodates most fusing projects and slumping molds. You'll need kiln shelves, fiber paper or shelf primer, and appropriate molds (sold separately in our furniture kits).
What color options are available?
The SC2 comes standard with Paragon's stainless steel exterior casing. Custom color options are not available for this model, as the focus is on durability and heat dissipation rather than aesthetic finish. The stainless steel provides a professional appearance suitable for studio or classroom use.
Does this kiln come with shelves and posts?
No, kiln furniture is sold separately. You'll need to purchase a furniture kit specific to the SC2, which includes appropriately-sized shelves, posts, and stilts. For glass work, you'll also want shelf paper or kiln wash. The SC2 features a reversible bottom plug that lets you fire directly on the floor for some projects or use posts and shelves for stacked work.
Is the warranty valid if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes. Peach State Pottery is an authorized Paragon dealer, which means your kiln comes with the full one-year manufacturer's warranty. You must register your kiln with Paragon within 30 days of delivery to activate the warranty. Kilns purchased from unauthorized sellers or used kilns do not qualify for manufacturer warranty coverage.
