Common questions
Can I plug this into a regular wall outlet?
Yes, the HotBox E operates on standard 120-volt household current. However, it draws 15 amps and should be plugged into a dedicated 20-amp circuit to prevent tripping breakers. Do not use extension cords or share the circuit with other high-draw appliances during firing. While no electrician is required for installation, verify your outlet circuit rating before use.
What can I fire in a kiln this small?
The 6.5-inch cube chamber is designed for glaze test tiles, small jewelry pieces, glass fusing samples, pottery buttons, beads, miniature sculptures, and experimental work. It's an essential tool for ceramic artists who need to test multiple glaze combinations without committing to full-size kiln loads, and for jewelers working with precious metal clay or enamel work.
Do I need to purchase kiln furniture separately?
Yes, kiln shelves and posts are sold separately as an optional furniture kit. Due to the compact size, the HotBox E requires custom-cut shelves to maximize the limited chamber space. We recommend ordering the furniture kit at the time of purchase to ensure proper fit and immediate use.
How long does it take to reach Cone 10?
Firing time varies based on programming and load density, but the HotBox E typically reaches Cone 10 temperatures in 6-8 hours due to its small thermal mass and efficient 3-inch brick insulation. The compact chamber heats and cools more quickly than larger kilns, making it ideal for rapid testing cycles.
What warranty coverage comes with this kiln?
Olympic Kilns provides a one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty must be registered within 30 days of delivery and is valid only when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Elements and thermocouples are considered consumable wear items and are not covered.
