What electrical work is required for the 1823HE?
The 1823HE requires a dedicated 60-amp circuit with 6-gauge copper wire. Most installations are hardwired rather than using a plug. This is not a standard household circuit—you'll need a licensed electrician to install the appropriate breaker and run wire from your panel to the kiln location. The kiln can operate on either 240V single-phase or 208V single-phase power.
What's the difference between this Freedom Package and the standard 1823HE kiln?
The Freedom Package includes the Genesis touchscreen controller (a significant upgrade from the standard KilnStar), a solid state relay for quieter operation and extended element life, and a complete furniture kit. Purchasing these items separately costs significantly more—the package represents substantial savings for a turnkey firing solution.
What size work can I fire in a 17.5-inch chamber?
The 17.5-inch width accommodates plates and platters up to about 16 inches, allowing clearance for thermal expansion and kiln wash. The 22.5-inch depth provides excellent vertical capacity for vases, sculptural work, and stacked shelf configurations. The 3.29 cubic feet gives you substantial production capacity in a relatively compact footprint.
How do I register the warranty?
Olympic requires warranty registration within 30 days of delivery. You'll register directly with Olympic Kilns using the serial number on your kiln and proof of purchase from Peach State Pottery. The warranty is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers—purchasing from unauthorized resellers voids all warranty coverage.
Can I add sections to change the firing chamber height later?
Yes, the stackable design allows you to add or remove sections to adjust chamber depth. However, changing the configuration may require electrical modifications since adding sections increases wattage and amperage draw. Consult with Olympic or an authorized dealer before purchasing additional sections to ensure your electrical service can support the modified configuration.
