Common questions
What electrical work is required to install the 1823E?
The 1823E requires a dedicated 40-amp, 240V single-phase circuit with 8 AWG copper wiring. Most installations require a licensed electrician to run new wiring from your electrical panel to the kiln location. The kiln can be ordered with a NEMA 6-50 plug or configured for hardwired installation. If you have 208V service instead of 240V (common in commercial buildings), specify this when ordering as element configuration may differ.
Does the 1823E come with kiln furniture?
No, kiln shelves and posts are sold separately. We recommend ordering a furniture kit sized specifically for the 17.5″ diameter chamber when you purchase the kiln. Raku firing typically requires minimal shelving since work is often loaded individually, but having appropriate half-rounds or full shelves allows you to fire multiple pieces efficiently.
How is this electric raku kiln different from a standard ceramic kiln?
The 1823E is engineered specifically for raku with faster heating elements and a chamber design that allows rapid temperature changes. The door configuration and chamber depth facilitate quick removal of hot work—essential for raku technique. While it can fire to Cone 8 (2300°F), its construction prioritizes the thermal shock resistance and rapid cycling needed for raku rather than the slow, controlled bisque and glaze firings of standard pottery kilns.
What maintenance does the 1823E require?
Regularly inspect elements for breaks or sagging and vacuum debris from the chamber floor after every few firings. The thermocouple should be checked annually and replaced when readings become inconsistent. Raku kilns experience more thermal stress than standard kilns due to rapid cycling, so expect element replacement every 100-150 firings depending on usage. Keep door seals clean and replace if gaps develop. The KilnStar controller is maintenance-free but should be kept clean and dry.
How do I register my warranty?
Olympic Kilns requires warranty registration within 30 days of delivery. You'll receive registration instructions with your kiln, or you can register directly on the Olympic Kilns website using your serial number and purchase date. Warranty coverage is valid only for kilns purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Keep your sales receipt as proof of purchase date.
Not sure if the 1823E is the right kiln for your space? Our team can help you evaluate electrical requirements, compare raku kiln options, and coordinate delivery to your Atlanta-area studio.

Warranty

Olympic Kilns Warranty

Olympic Kilns are warranted by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. for kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass, subject to the warranty periods, requirements, and exclusions listed below.

This warranty is provided by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. Peach State Pottery is here to help customers understand warranty coverage and assist with the process if warranty service is needed.

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase

  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Warranty Periods

Warranty coverage depends on the kiln type and configuration.

Product / Component Warranty Period
Kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter and Safety Timer 1 year
Cone 10 kilns 1 year
All other Olympic kilns 2 years
Thermocouples Not covered
Kiln furniture Not covered

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.
  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.
