Common questions
What electrical work is required to install the 1818E? The 1818E requires a dedicated 60-amp circuit at 240V single phase with 6 AWG copper wire minimum. Most installations use a NEMA 14-60 receptacle, though hardwiring directly to the breaker panel is also common. A licensed electrician should evaluate your electrical panel capacity and install the circuit in compliance with local codes. The kiln draws 48 amps at full power, so the 60-amp breaker provides appropriate headroom. If only 208V is available in your building, the kiln can be configured for that voltage but will fire slightly slower.
Does the 1818E come with kiln shelves and posts? No, kiln furniture is sold separately to allow you to configure the exact shelf setup for your work. For the 17.5-inch diameter chamber, we recommend starting with a furniture kit that includes round or half-round shelves sized at 16.5 inches to allow proper airflow around the edges. Most customers use 3-4 shelves with appropriate post heights to create multiple loading levels. We can help you determine the optimal furniture configuration based on the typical height of your ceramic pieces.
How difficult is it to disassemble and move the stackable design? The 1818E separates into two ring sections, a lid, and a metal stand—all of which can be moved by two people without special equipment. Each ring section weighs approximately 100-120 pounds. Disassembly takes about 30 minutes and requires disconnecting the wiring between sections (clearly labeled connections), removing the band clamps, and lifting each section apart. This design allows the kiln to pass through standard 30-inch doorways and up staircases, which is impossible with one-piece kilns of this capacity. Reassembly takes about the same time and requires no special tools.
Is the one-year warranty really only valid through authorized dealers? Yes, Olympic Kilns only honors warranty claims on kilns purchased through their authorized dealer network, which includes Peach State Pottery. Kilns purchased from unauthorized resellers, used marketplaces, or out-of-region dealers are not covered. The warranty must be registered within 30 days of delivery and covers defects in materials and workmanship including elements, firebrick, metal components, and the controller. Normal wear items like thermocouples, relays (if not SSR-equipped), and element deterioration from use are not covered. Purchasing from an authorized dealer ensures you receive factory support and genuine Olympic replacement parts.
Can the 1818E fire to Cone 10, or is it limited to Cone 8? The 1818E is rated to Cone 8 (2300°F) maximum. While the firebrick can withstand higher temperatures, the elements and electrical components are not designed for Cone 10 operation (2350°F+). Attempting to fire beyond Cone 8 will dramatically shorten element life, void your warranty, and may cause controller or relay failure. If you need Cone 10 capability for high-fire stoneware or porcelain, consider Olympic's Cone 10-rated models with heavier element gauge and upgraded components. For most mid-range glazes and clay bodies rated to Cone 5-6, the 1818E provides excellent results with good element longevity.
Not sure if the 1818E is the right kiln for your space? Our team can evaluate your electrical service, studio layout, and firing needs to recommend the best Olympic kiln configuration.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Talk to an expert →
Shipping/Returns

Shipping

  • Orders are FOB origin when they leave our loading dock. This means we hold the carrier's receipt that your order left in good condition.
  • The carrier is responsible for transporting your freight but not for unloading it.
  • Lift gate required if you do not have a loading dock. A lift gate service must be requested when ordering your kiln. Lift gates are available for kilns on 6 ft. x 6 ft. pallets or smaller.
  • Large Capacity kilns (20 cubic feet and larger) require the customer to have a forklift that can move the kiln from the truck to the desired location.
  • Customer is responsible for moving the freight from the truck to its place of use.
  • UPS and FedEx will deliver smaller shipments to your door.

Upon Delivery

  • You have the option of refusing delivery if the freight appears to be damaged.
  • Check the count of the items ordered, and note on the carrier's delivery receipt any shortages.
  • If any damage appears on outside of package, have the driver inspect the packages and note on the carrier's delivery receipt the damage.
  • Immediately after delivery, open all cartons to determine if there is any concealed damage.
  • Retain all damaged items with their packaging.
  • Report damage within 24 hours. If a call is made later than 36 hours, the carrier can deny your claim.
  • Confirm call in writing by registered mail and keep a copy for your records.

Upon Carrier Inspection

  • Make sure the damaged items have not been moved from the receiving area prior to discovery of the damage.
  • Allow the inspector to inspect damaged items, cartons, inner packing materials and freight bill.
  • Retain your delivery receipt – it will be required as supporting documentation when a claim is filed.
  • Once the inspector has filled out the inspection report, read it carefully and make sure you agree with the report.
  • Unless repairs will be completely satisfactory, be sure the inspector requests replacement on the inspection report.

After Carrier Inspection

  • Continue to retain damaged merchandise even though the inspection has been completed.
  • Damaged items cannot be used or disposed of without written permission from the carrier.
  • Do not return damaged items without written authorization from the supplier.
  • If damaged items are picked up by the carrier for salvage, secure the receipt.

Filing a Freight Claim

  • It is the customer's responsibility (as consignee) to file any claim.
  • We are willing to assist you in collecting claims but this willingness does not make us responsible for collection of claims or replacement of materials damaged or lost.
  • We cannot make freight claims for customers.
  • Documents required for filing a freight claim:
    • Carrier's loss or damage claim form
    • Shipper's original invoice or copy

Warranty

Olympic Kilns Warranty

Olympic Kilns are warranted by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. for kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass, subject to the warranty periods, requirements, and exclusions listed below.

This warranty is provided by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. Peach State Pottery is here to help customers understand warranty coverage and assist with the process if warranty service is needed.

Warranty Periods

Warranty coverage depends on the kiln type and configuration.

Product / Component Warranty Period
Kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter and Safety Timer 1 year
Cone 10 kilns 1 year
All other Olympic kilns 2 years
Thermocouples Not covered
Kiln furniture Not covered

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.
  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.
